Still finding that difficult to take in. I don't think she was even ill was she? * Not confirmed. "Details of her death will be announced following the coroner's report. Her family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time." Her husband of 30 years died in 1999 age 57
It was very sad to see that Cilla had passed away. We do think of 72 as being young these days. The other day Country singer Lynn Anderson passed away at just 67. Incredible to think how young she was in 1971 when she had a huge hit with “Rose Garden”, especially in a music genre where most of the performers had to ‘pay their dues’ before making the big time. Being a pop singer from Liverpool, Cilla’s music career was perfectly entitled to start young as the Beatles were redefining the landscape. With her TV career, she certainly crammed plenty in to her 72 years.
Sad to hear the news. If I remember correcly I think I owned three singles by Cilla Black; one of which was one of three bought by my Grandad on a day out in Leven, Fife. The other two were Juliet by the Four Pennies and I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman by god knows who. This was probably another sign of my early and growing 'Tuetonic' love and admiration (?).
Just for you Kenny, don't say we do nothin' for ya'. The things we do for fellow forum folk, ohhh the pain of it all.
c111 - Thanks; strange thing is I have just returned fromm a 'boozy' two weeks in Koln and went to the dancin' for the first time in about thirty years. My moves, I think, resemble those of the groovy Whistling Jack Smith!!!!
Regarding trip to Koln I was meant to be 'away' for five nights but stayed eleven including the last three in a separate hotel. Had to walk back to the original hotel about 05.00 on the morning I intended returning to Edinburgh. Just picked up case which appeared a wee bit light and a couple of bags of 'goodies' from the local Hard Rock Cafe. Crapped myself when I opened the case in 'Casa Cambie' in Edinburgh to discover that brown brogues, Jacket and six Hugo Boss polos were still on holiday in Koln! Great service from hotel; I e-mailed them giving description of clothes still in their 'luggage' room. All I had to do was give credit card details and they would arrange postage to 'Auld Reekie'. Back to Koln next June for a rock concert (BAP) so had better give them my custom (if they want me)! Must ensure I return to Scotland on intended day of departure!!
