And I've been quiet clear up until recently that I would keep Martin as our first choice RB and use him as cover at CB. He would not be my first choice CB and I think we desperately need an upgrade to cover the CB position he seems to be filling. I not even sure now that he'd be may first choice RB.
No I'm suggesting we are not a big enough side to sign these players ahead of Tottenham Sunderland or Saints for example , maybe next year?
Of course he was, but that just doesn't sit with some people's pre-conceived agenda so they look the other way.
I think if you look back at last seasons threads you're find plenty of occasions documented where myself and other posters highlighted games that we were in control of, but lost by one goal due to silly defensive mistakes.
If Alex Neil is of a similar opinion, you won't have to wait three months to know. If a PL calibre CB is signed before the window shuts (Sept 1?) then that will tell it's own story - if not AN clearly trusts Martin to do the necessary
Martin is not as good as most of the center backs we will come up against this season but as Munky said he was voted in the top 2 from the Championship all star 11 thing. We don't owe any money and can't afford to pay the silly money that the other 19 sides can we are Norwich City , we can strengthen gradually but I'm afraid a few of you need to get used to it. Dismantling the spine of a winning team is suicide , like when Worthington shipped out Mackay and Roberts 2 of our best players that put us there years ago we lost our identity and leaders resulting in failure. If we ship too many goals break the bank in January but benching our captain would be counter productive unless his form deteriorates dramatically .
What agenda ? Some posters don't think Martin is good enough for the premier league, some do. There's no agendas its just different opinions. Yes Ruddy made mistakes, some entirely his own fault, some not helped by the quality of the CB partnership playing in front of him. Interestingly his performances seemed to improve when Bassong returned. But we can't rely on Bassong playing to his full potential for the whole of next seasons and we have stepped up a league.
I don't think I will, honestly, I don't think there will be many of them at all, I think this is just what you want to be true, and - dare I say it - a bit of a cop out of a comeback. I asked you to show me the evidence, can you link to any of these occasions, not all of them just a few
I don't think anyone is arguing that we couldn't strengthen but using Martin as a straw man before a ball has been kicked in anger this season is very negative to some. Grabban on the other hand should not be anywhere near the starting 11 after that miss today.
I do happen to agree with this bit. Though any keeper in the world would feel more settled / comfortable with a first choice CB pairing ahead of him. To me, at the moment, that's Bassong and question mark
It's not a cop out. You and I both know that there was a lot of discussion about the performance of our defence in general and us losing games by a single goal against the run of play. There was a lot of discussion around Martin as a CB between a wide variety of posters including you and me. We didn't agree and still don't, but you are in denile if you think those discussions didn't take place or that there wasn't occasions when Martin made errors that cost us. I haven't got the time and energy to go through all the previous posts and list out specific examples. If you want to thats fine. If you don't, thats no issue either. You asked for evidence all I've done is suggested where you could find it if you were really that interested. If I was you I wouldn't bother either, but don't ask me to waste my time. Any way this board is for people to discuss their opinions and share information NOT produce evidence.
