But can you honestly say that he should be a first choice centre back in the Premier League? Deep down we all know the answer. Don't we?
I'm just giving an opinion Dave. That's what this site is for isn't it? I'm not saying I'm right but I just don't think he is a premier league centre back.
Also, Brady. Looked comfortable, but £7m? His corners were dreadful. Didn't look anything special to me but I guess we needed him.
If we were seriously trying to win the league, or even finish in the top four then I'd perhaps agree with you, he's not at that level. However is he good enough for us and our ambitions? In my opinion he absolutely is, and also thats the opinion of plenty of football managers who know a hell of a lot to more about the game than either you or I. Gordon Strachan certainly thinks he's good enough to start at CB for Scotland's qualifying games, he acquitted himself pretty well against the world champions Germany at least. I think some people just sit and wait for certain players to make mistakes so they can get on their backs, this being a perfect example. Don't get it myself but there you go.
I'd say you were doing more than just giving your opinion, you were trying to tell us what we all really think as well which is perhaps just a tad arrogant as well as being incorrect. You certainly don't speak for me on this one
I just don't agree that we should be starting the season with Martin as our first choice centre back. I don't think he is at the level needed. He makes mistakes that costs us and it will cost us more in the premier league.
He meant anyone with two eyes and half a brain Of course he's not good enough to be a prem CB. If we stick with Martin and Whit then we will get torn apart on a regular basis
What did his mistakes cost us last year exactly? How many games did he cost us points? Any evidence or is this just more of your opinion?
If you guys think differently that's fine, I know I'm not alone in the way I think. A converted left back to centre back in the PL will have mistakes in them.
But you said "he makes mistakes" rather than "I think he makes mistakes", sounded more of a statement to fact to me. I can point to the facts that he is picked as a CB by many managers, he is an established international in that position and was selected in the championship team of the year last season in that position. They are facts and not just my opinion, I've yet to see any facts or evidence to back up your opinion.
Good luck with finding a defender on our budget who won't make any mistakes This is the problem I feel, people's expectations run away with them and they suddenly think we're Chelsea or something. Ian Crook was my favourite ever canary, but he made mistakes you know, and I honestly don't think Rusty makes many at all.
I like Martin, he will give you 100% every game, a true professional and a good representative for the club. I don't agree with K E M P but he's entitled to his opinion, we do need to improve our defence though as I do worry playing against the top teams.
Of course he is entitled to his opinion, nobody has ever said anything otherwise. He's not entitled to tell me what "I really think" though, and it would help things if he supported his opinion with just a smidgen of actual evidence, that's all I'm saying.
He played left back today for a bit? He looked OK there, your right though he was a right back, not a left back, even though he played left back today for a bit. I guess we will see how it goes. He made a mistake today and it lead to a goal, he worries me when he is on the ball and under pressure.
