He likes to put his foot on the ball and isn't afraid to drop his shoulder and bring it out from the back. He'd need to adjust pretty quickly to the different level of striker in the premier league, who shouldn't allow him time and space to do that. Difficult to judge his defending playing for celtic in the SPL.
Allegedly been on our radar for a while without actually making a bid. Like you say difficult to judge his defending playing in SPL, with impressive offensive stats he would seem to possess good footballing ability. No secret we need to buy at least one CB, just wondered what he was like at the ugly side of defending??
They weren't exactly good defensively in Europe last year...hard to say how much of that can be ascribed to van Dijk, however.
What I have seen of VVD, I have liked, and I can see him being as versatile as Toby was, being able to fill the role of defensive midfielder, if needed. In fact, If it were down to me, I'd consider converting him to DM, for his ability to bring the ball out of defence, and his willingness to have a shot on goal.

Celtic 0-0 at HT in home leg. Can't say I like wanting a British team to lose. I've nothing against Celtic so usually would be hoping they get to the group stage. Of course if it was the scousers or spuds that would be easy.
Celtic fans may be reading too much into the Caulker signing http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/vi...tm_campaign=Feed: co/IRuC (Celtic Quick News)
We needed Caulker after Gardos became injured, but are still probably after another CB. Ron didn't deny interest in signing Virgil when it was put to him recently, but has all gone quiet (if it was ever truly noisy).
Especially when the actual article mentions we've spent £22m on their players in the last 2 seasons. Would we then just replace 2 CB's with the loan of Caulker?
If Saints say anything about transfer policy it is that they don't say anything. So we can speculate all we want. It won't get the transfers done. And I say this as a contributor to the hype. When Ron didn't comment about van Dijk we clutched the lack of denial to ourselves as if it was a long lost child. There's a simple bit of logic going on here. Saints are ambitious to do better and remain on an upward curve. Therefore, I don't think the present transfers in and the loaning of Caulker are remotely anything like our finish in the summer transfer window.
Agreed. I thought the article was funny though and a little how we have been this summer. Even though we knew Morgan was off, we hung on to the words of any article linking United and Arsenal to any CDM. I like your "clutched the lack of denial to ourselves as if it was a long lost child"... Lovely analogy.
