Simple being the operative word. Was it because you were genuinely interested and concerned about Russian politics, or so you could sling mud on a football forum
Sounds like Arsenal thought they were above the rules and were rightly punished. This case is one of many examples of how the "corporate excellence" image that many associate with Arsenal is in fact both tainted and a total myth. Not to mention the lack of success it has translated to on the pitch in the last decade.
I was interested in supplying the evidence and facts, which seems to be lacking from those making allegations about Arsenal 'bribing' their way into the league.
Given that the reason used for Arsenal's promotion at the time was clearly false, why do you think that you were promoted, Piskie? Bear in mind that most of the clubs involved either didn't like London sides and/or your owner.
Evidence and facts! You aren't a solicitor or a historian, you are a jumped up little knobhead on a football forum, no one cares about your "facts". Stick to getting owned by HIAG, you are much funnier then.
Spurs were the club who were disliked, partly due to pissing off the southern league by attempting to leave it and reneging on their fixtures. Hence when it came to them lobbying to be promoted (despite being relegated) not surprisingly they didn't get any votes. Norris successfully lobbied for Arsenal to be promoted and it appears that Spurs fans have been bitter ever since.
This makes no sense. Clubs in the league that Spurs joined disliked Spurs because they left another league? Don't be silly. It's also factually incorrect, as it attempts to suggest that the choice was either Tottenham or Arsenal. Why wouldn't the clubs in the top flight have chosen either Barnsley, Birmingham or Wolves, all of whom finished above Arsenal? They're all closer to the northern clubs that dominated at the time and who all preferred shorter trips. There was literally no sensible reason to promote Arsenal.
According to reports at the time, Spurs pissed off the same footballing fraternity that they then needed support from, but didn't get it. I never said it was a straight contest between arsenal and spurs for promotion, I don't know why one of the other clubs weren't promoted. Norris lobbied for Arsenal and was successful. Maybe it was down to the fact that Noth London needed a decent team to represent the league
Arsenal were **** though, so that's another reason to rule it out. They also pissed off the same teams, as you claimed yourself earlier in the thread, so that makes even less sense.
