http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20893347 Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has signed a new four-year deal with the club worth £140,000 a week. The 26-year-old has scored 50 league goals in 208 appearances since signing from Southampton in 2006 in a deal worth up to £12.5m. Spain international midfielder Santi Cazorla, 30, has also signed a new deal with the London club. "Both are top-quality players who are hugely important and influential to our squad," said manager Arsene Wenger. "As well as their huge contributions on the pitch, they both have a great deal of experience and are very popular off the pitch." Walcott, whose previous contract was due to expire at the end of the 2015-16 season, had been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
Good news on both accounts - Walcott and Cazorla. He also got a great deal with 140k per week. Let's hope he kicks on this coming season and shows what he can do in our CF position.
The last two seasons we have been able to hold on to our quality players which is the biggest telling factor in pushing to compete for the title. It's great to see and not always about adding half a dozen new players every season, stability is the key and we are finally seeing this. No longer are our top players leaving for so called greener pastures, they obviously know they as a current group can win things!
Agree with both straycat_67 and SpursDisciple. It's great that we've kept hold of our best players, and I think Walcott will play an important role this season, especially if he's used as a foil for Giroud, but he's done nothing since signing his last contract (because of injuries ect) so I can't see how he deserves a payrise.
Sorry i meant, a great deal for Walcott getting £140k. Personally think that the agent has done a great job of getting him the big pay rise. He can do the business for us, but he needs to play consistently well and play well in the CF position to justify the big pay rise. It's crazy how much footballers get nowadays, especially English players.
Don't agree about Theo playing as CF. 2 Seasons ago he scored 23 goals from a RWF position. For me that's perfect. If Sanchez scores 25 - mainly from the left. Giroud scores 20-25 as a CF Walcott scores 20+ mainly from the right .. we could well win the league. We need someone who can hold the ball up down the middle. I think going back to three small, quick players up top would be a mistake. Our team benefits from the height and power of playing a target man.
If we lose our best players, they say Arsenal can't keep up, if we keep our best players, and have to pay them that extra $$$ to keep em, they say Arsenal pay too much. As Wenger said, one week he's accused of spending nothing, the next it's he spends too much.
Yes but Giroud won't play every single game nor will he be on form for all of the season. We need a second CF and Walcott should be one of them. He has still something to prove in that position but I do agree that he is potent on the right wing. Unfortunately, that's where the irreplaceable Sanchez operates at his best. We could move him to the left, but Wenger still needs to find ways of fitting all his favorites in.
Paying theo 140k was needed either that or lose him on a free sign a replacement for 20 mill with 100k a week wages
Who exactly is blaming Wenger? Its unanimous that we are happy that Walcott signed the contract, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that he gets a fat pay rise for being injured and not factoring much for the last two seasons. But I guess that's the mad world of football nowadays.
Sorry yes, he played the majority in the second half of the season on the left. I always seem to see him moving to the right...
Don't care too much about his wages. Did I want to keep him? Yes. Was he holding us to ransom? Probably, but I'd rather that than do a Sterling and try and leave. Besides, when this new tv money comes in these wages will seem small change.
i doubt they would have released the amount for any of them, the 140k for walcott is probably just guess work.
Yeah but only us Arsenal fans though, He should be a bigger name in football. Amazingly talented little guy.
