How many wickets will we lose before getting the 121 runs required?

    I'm going for 5.

Disappointing from Cook again, though his captaincy has been solid. Bell rattling through the runs - shows it was after all the right decision to pick him in his home ground...

Aussie's should have let Lyth make at least 20, then it would have been harder for the English selectors to justify replacing him with a batsmen.

<laugh>! I'd not thought of it that way - a real tactical error on their part.

Can't see him getting back in the England squad for a little while...

Great, deserved, win. Bell won't lose his place for a while now.

Really!? I thought it was a cracking delivery that got Cook out. Unplayable even.

Bell delivered which makes me very happy as he's a stylish batsman and great to watch.

Apologies on that one - I didn't see the ball only the total! Fair enough if it was a brilliant ball

More generally for his recent batting - averaging 30 even in the Ashes isn't good enough for him, particularly as without the 96 at Lord's his average is 15...

But if he captains a winning Ashes team, it doesn't matter!

Cook's batting average is lower than what it should be. But I think he looks in decent nick and was desperately unlucky to get out for 37 in the frst innings.

Agreed, I think his captaincy so far in this Ashes series is solid.

Cook is in decent nick. Miracle catch got him in the first superb ball got him in the second. The price you pay for being an opener is getting the odd unplayable ball.

Plenty of media and fan talk about who should replace (<yikes>) Jimmy for Trent Bridge - Broad, Finn, Wood and Stokes would do me, but who at this stage of the series - having just won this emphatically, would replace Lyth?
Maybe, a bit like RvW, he needs one more chance? :emoticon-0112-wonde

    Hales, surely?
Trent Bridge is his home ground, he couldn;t do any worse than Lyth, and a right-hand / left-hand combination always helps at the top of the order.

I've not heard many people say this in the last few days though. Does he have some kind of injury I'm not aware of?

With regards to Lyth being dropped I sought it will happen, the two who could replace him are Hales and Stoneman. Hales is out of form in first class cricket and has been batting in the middle order for Notts in first class cricket, also it is 50 over time for the counties. Stoneman is completely out of form this season.

So I think they will stick with Lyth.

Wood will replace Anderson, with possibly Brooks in the squad.

A great win and more comfortable than I would have imagined, paricularly at 11-1. However, who on here thinks that England will win the Ashes? Sadly I don't and with draws looking a non-starter I fancy Australia 2-3. Hope I'm wrong but our batting looks too fragile and we will be without Anderson for posibly both tests. The onlu upside for me is that now Lyth has surely gone, he was simply not good enough.

Lyth is in the squad Thurnby, along with Plunkett ant Footitt in case Wood does not recover sufficiently.

Have a nice Aussie wine chilling down for later - it's called 'château collapso' <laugh>

Edit 30-6 and Clarke's dismal form continues <ok>
