It was used when it needed to be referred to properly, like on MOTD, but I can't recall anyone using it conversation unless it was to annoy Newkie fans.
I've never called it Eastlands but then again city will always be Maine Road to me edit - shucks just seen Nozzers post, great minds ....

The owners have said they won't rename Anfield so I don't think we have to worry about it. But, if it is just a name, is it just a colour as well? Some time in the future when Mersey Rovers are playing in blue and yellow at the Dunkin Donuts stadium how will we all relate to that? Future generations will be supporting a different team because it is precisely the name [and the colour] that ensures the continuity of the club we all identify with and love. They'll be told 'forget about your history, you're not Liverpool, they've been and gone, you're Mersey Rovers ..........'
welcome to anfield sponsored by McDonalds. nobody is changing the colour end of... thats also iconic. It'd be like apple dropping their logo. It won't be mersey rovers anyway.. it'd be wild cats or something... dunkin' sounds cool did you notice that this doesn't occur with really histric gorunds in us https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_National_Football_League_stadiums take a look soldier field is still soldeir field all the rest are corporate as the franchises move about. the iconic arenas still have their names... few of them though.... think about it guys.... if something is ICONIC it sells.... and it sells more than the money that calling something say dunkin arean will.
nahhhhh.... they can't afford it. I'd like a non asian company at this point. a new top company... the apple stand for instance they could pay for it out of petty cash at this point.
St James' Park was always St James' Park to the fans, although whenever it was mentioned on MOTD or Sky Sports they referred to it as The Sports Direct Arena. Interestingly though, the pundits on Soccer Saturday still used to refer to it as St James' Park - though they did sometimes get corrected. I wasn't in favour of renaming the stadium though, and I was glad when it got changed back (though we shouldn't forget that the current sponsors have paid to have the name changed back so it might be up for future renaming once the deal with Wonga runs out). I wouldn't have an issue with our East Stand being renamed, or even the main Sir John Hall Stand, but I wouldn't fancy renaming the Gallowgate or Leazes End - too many memories tied up in those names. To me, historic ground names, club colours and club names should be sacred. Many of our fans (and yours) treat following the club like a religion and there are some things that shouldn't be up for negotiation - the doctrines of the faith if you like. As for the wumming factor that shouldn't come into it. The wumming will happen anyway. It doesn't take a name change for Sunderland fans to call our place Sid James Park or for us to call their's The Stadium of ****e. Rival fans only make a point of mentioning the new name if they know it winds you up, so in some ways the fans are in control of how much of a wind up that is - or not. Wummers gonna wum - nothing changes that. I think all clubs wanting to compete have to look for new ways to raise money, but try and do it without selling the soul of the club. Football shouldn't be about money, but it is these days. However, thinking of your lot, I think the names Liverpool, Kop, Anfield and red are all part of the 'brand' that adds to your commercial strength. Change any of those and you reduce the commercial strength, making it a pointless commercial venture. I think that applies to all historic clubs (I hesitate to use the word 'big' cos that sets off a totally different debate).
I agree with all of that. I'm guessing you're an older fan maybe or just from a family deeply entrenched in NUFC. Changing the name is like selling your soul which I also said earlier I'm all for moving with the times, but leave the name alone.
Bit of both really. I'm not old enough to have seen us win a trophy though I was there though when we last won something, I just didn't have a very good view. My dad dragged my mum all round Europe when she was pregnant with me - so at least I can say I was there!!
