Get rid of one useless player from Yorkshire CCC (Ballance) and bring in another useless player from Yorkshire CCC (Bairstow). If we win this match, presumably Lyth will not get sent packing back to “God’s Own County”. At least Root is showing that the entire county is not useless.

I guess most of them don't get to face bowlers of Johnson's class in the county championship?

In recent years the County Championship has been a joke. The selectors keep picking players who have scored loads of runs on flat tracks against mediocre bowling and then when they face top class bowling for England they crumble. They should get back to putting first team prospects into the England Lions team to get some idea of whether they can actually hack it.

I would have dropped Adam Lyth as well as Gary Ballance after the Lord’s Test.

Got a feeling this is going to the wire. Some bright spark reckons as long as we bowl them out for less than 180 in front we'll be ok. Sod that I don't want them more than 18 in front.

I think the Aussies have been down to the bookies at Tea and piled on England to win by an innings...

Finn is on fire: Clarke gone for 3, Voges for a first ball duck. March did not play at the hat-trick ball.

Aussies 76 for 4, still 69 runs behind.

But the hillbilly is still smacking it. Time for Moeen to throw him a pie perhaps? He certainly comes across as stupid enough to fall for it again.

Marsh just survived a review by England that went with umpire’s call. Glenn McGrath cannot believe it was not given out by the umpire. Finn must be livid.

Now Marsh has gone – Finn has cleaned him up, no umpire needed for that one!

Apparently the biggest successful fourth innings chase at Edgbaston was 281 by South Africa, so it does not look like that is going to be in any danger.

Broad needs to knock one of these over for wicket number 300 – Mitchell Johnson got number 300 thanks to Bairstow in the first innings. He has some way to go to catch Dale Steyn, who got his 400th today dismissing Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal.

You have to feel sorry for folks that have got tickets for Saturday of this Test match. Somebody on TMS just piped up “Whose organising the fancy dress pub crawl in Birmingham on Saturday?”

Why do you always jump in when the result is inevitable and start pontificating?

Put up like I do (and call it right) or stop this revisionist rhetoric and slagging off players who have a poor game after the event.

You obviously wait for the early editions and regurgitate.

As good a match for bowling as you will see in recent Tests. Yes there have been the odd bad shot to get a wicket or two but give credit to the bowlers, on both sides, when they bowled it in the right areas for any length of time they got rewarded. It's just been a Test where if you played well you got your rewards. Batters got in, and should have made more, no claims of dodgy pitches here... And the bowlers went for runs if they bowled badly, but most of the England bowlers got their line & lengths right for longer...

All round it's been a bloody good Test to watch...<ok>

    Right i'm off to work...

Definitely a bowler's pitch. They were saying before the coin toss, that where as the grass length on the second test strip was 2 mil, here it was 8.

Nope I don't think so, I don't follow the pack. My antipathy towards Warner is down to his pathetic attempt to unsettle the England dressing room prior to this series by putting a fresh twist on a 2 year old issue with a very unsubtle toss of the race card. Pretty sure you're one sanctimonious prick though.
