Playing Rooney as a number 10 made sense when you had RVP in that world class patch of form he hit between 2012 and 2013.
He was slaying teams left and right, so dropping him for anyone would have been foolish.
But now he is gone, if you are not going to make a World class signing to replace him, it has to be Rooney up there. At least for this season, you don't want to chuck Depay into the deep end up front in a new league. I know thats basically what Chelsea did with Costa, but it was a big gamble and we are extremely lucky it paid off (dodgy hamstrings not withstanding).

But throughout pre season he has never been up alone, that's the problem and lvg doesn't see it. The problem is Memphis blocking his path.

For the greater good. Januzaj is unpredictable and Herrera would be better suited to the att mid slot.

Obviously assuming we go 433. Mata would miss out me. In a 4231 then Mata would be best for the number 10 slot.

    Indeed.
If you go 433 then there is no room for a number 10, so if he plays 433 it must be Mata who goes.
If you are playing a No. 10 though, it should be Mata imo.

I would prefer we buy another right sided forward, but if we don't, we can still play Mata there in a 4-3-3. Mata will drift to the middle and still play like a no 10, he did that a lot yesterday, just like messi does. Barcelona plays with 4-3-3, no number 10, messi plays right wing and no 10 simultaneously. I know Mata is not messi, but he is good in his own ways.

Anyone notice the goal keeper situation last night (not the will de Gea stay or go one). Both keepers seemed to have been told to rush out of the area at any hint of a ball through the middle, this is fine if sweeping up behind the defence but last night they both rushed out (on quite a few occasions) when a defender was tracking/shoulder to shoulder with the striker. The first goal came from this and on at least two other occasions there was nearly a collision between our own players. If they have been coached/instructed to play this way then I think they need to be taught better decision making too.

Mata is a quality player. Absolutely no doubt. But in an attack that would otherwise be a little short on pace and unpredictablity someone like Januzaj or Di Maria (if still here) would be better suited. Depay is always going to be chasing goals as hes more like ronaldo than di maria.

Noticed that too. I think it is probably to way the defence was mouoded to play the high line when going forward. Also psg reading the game and playing long balls forwards catching our defenders off guard putting goalkeepers under pressure. U could probably see darmian and Shaw were playing right and left wingers while young was non existent, mata playing the false no 10. Again it is down to lvg playing Memphis as no 10z he doesn't drop back to help the defence .

Rooney gets injured, any remote chance we have of challenging for the title is gone.

I don't understand at what point in the summer, some ppl have gone from "top 4 this season and challenging for the title next season, LVG will be judged on that" to .... "yeh let's just make do"

We've been appeased with our summer signings so far, but CBs and a striker have not been addressed. We need to buy the finished article in atleast ONE of those positions. If we do that but still dont challenge, fair enough. But if we dont do that and don't challenge, then ppl will look back to this summer as yet another transfer window where we failed to address the right areas the world and his wife could see.

Getting top 4 is one thing but he'll have to be as good as Fergie to get us the title without either a top CB or top Striker. I say one or the other bcos you can always approach the season "we're going to outscore the opposition" and with the defensive midfielders we've bought that's not unrealistic. But to not do either is asking for trouble. I'd even settle for Pedro but if you want my honest opinion I dont really think he ticks the box.

    Thats the one <ok>

They get terribly arsey if you call it Adi-Das.

One of the funniest days ever was when a temp came in wearing a Nike T shirt.
One of the directors sent him home to get changed.
    Reebok or Adidas only.

Why, considering the name is derived from Adi Dassler?

He certainly wasn't called Adeee Dussler.

Brilliant <laugh> surprised they didnt get sacked.

Why are you allowed to wear Reebok? What about Lonsdale as that could impact on Matth's chances of working there.

I mean why need the trendy abbreviation? His name is Sebastian. Call him Seb if you have to. Bastian just seems a bit hipster and pretentious.

No, his name is actually Bastian. Although derived from Sebastian, it's a seperate name in its own right, not an abbreviation.
