*cough* It's 'bated breath' not 'baited breath.' Bated is from abated meaning reduced. Good read though.
I'm sure I didn't make that error, as I've been pulled up on it before... *scuttles off to email the sub-editor*
I can't open the link as I'm on my phone but looks like the resident critics have made it unnecessary!
It's very good. Positive and realistic, yet still quite the fanfare. And Saints fans ought to realise that this is just a next step. It certainly isn't the end of a journey. Perhaps it's the end of the opening chapters, and now we're starting to get into the meat of the story.
Another good read DTLW, I hope many fans do take a few seconds or longer to reminisce about the era that the Liebherr family have bought about. As a child I remember sitting at the old county ground pretending to watch Hampshire play cricket. My dad couldn't afford the tickets for the Dell but the only reason I went was to listen to the roars of the fans forego had just watched who just witnessed Matts end of season scrap, ably supported by some honest and hard working team mates. Although only 37, I have witnessed both the rise and fall that football brings, back on the old 606 site, in the dark, dark pre Liebherr days, I remember nervously writing a reply to someone saying that it was always darkest before dawn.... Smugly, I'm gonna be thinking that tonight as I take my seat at the church I choose to pray, hope and dream at, but I've learnt to take only the here and now for granted. At the moment we are being run very, very well-very few football fans (apart from saints fans can say that honestly) UTS
Whilst you are there, could you sort out the split infinitive as well? It's the the sort of correction that I fully expect you to rise to. Nice piece.
It's a great read DTLW, but I'm having trouble convincing my lad that the switch to Shoot! is the way for him to go. Not even me "knowing" the Southampton writer for shoot! is helping.... .... Any chance you can switch and write for Match! ??
As a kid I had read GOAL magazine for a number of years, but I changed to Shoot when it came out because it had better photographs in it. GOAL was a bit wordy for a 6-7 year old. I used to have all the teams plastered over the bedroom walls because Shoot provided a squad centrefold photo in each issue. It was interesting to see the lineups change every season. Both were good magazines though. The only Match magazine I've ever read came from Paris.
