Negative comments like that only come out from players who have been unsuccessful at places or come under scrutiny. If/When Austin leaves, I doubt he'll make a similar comment.

Even though the timing is a bit flawed, I am pleased that he has gone. Tomorrow, I fully expect that the replacement(s) is/are on their way in.

    Now who's the bad egg?

Loaning Caulker out for me is a sackable offence for Ferdinand and Hoos.

    Idiotic in every sense

How much is this going to save us in wages? When compared with replacement we are bringing in own wages. Plus how much will the replacement cost in transfer fees

We are now riciculously short in defenders and our bargaining position has become that much weaker when buying. Making the sale even more ridiculous.

If southampton want to buy him then fine, but 8m should have been the price. Like TF said everyone has a value.

If he now goes to Southampton and realises his potential, he'll want to sulk and stay there. And we won't get the value.

    Terrible decision.

Honestly mean this. Les out!! Hoos out!!

    Sackable offence. Idiotic approach

I think its a good deal, Southampton paying 1.2 mill and his wages for a year.

Exactly complete contradiction of what TF said.

Unless they sign a centre back of equal quality within the next 24 hours for a bargain price of equal quality and who is also young enough for his transfer value to increase, then I don’t care about signings like Chery, Ferdinand out! Hoos Out! Aren’t bright enough to be involved in a football club

I have a suspicion this will turn out ok, simply because it is just so bizarre.
This can give us the money to buy Perch and maybe we have a loan agreement already in place...as I said Chris and Les are not fools...you may disagree with their tactics, their choice of players....but both know how to build a squad, and this is so bizarre they must must must know what they are doing....<whistle><whistle><whistle><whistle><whistle><whistle><whistle>

Glad he's gone, don't like him or rate him as a top centre-half.He was a total liability last year, and we've freed up money with his wages to bring in some decent replacements.Although the season starts next weekend, there is plenty of time left in the transfer window to bring in the defenders required, and more importantly the one's that Ramsey wants in his squad!

He's the one that Ramsey and Les really want to get rid of!

'Tis an odd one for sure but would seem he didn't figure in Ramsey/Ferdinand plans, so best rid. Would have preferred a straight sale but this is next best thing.......are Saints all of a sudden among the favorites for relegation now they have Caulker, 2 in a row?

Us as fans have no knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes so lets leave this to those in charge and see what the next 48 hours brings. If no one signed by Friday next week then we may have some justification for asking questions......

This is exactly right. No point anyone making assumptions and second guessing the reason as no one is privy to what goes on.

Actually, I had modest expectations for the coming season and I'm happy to bide our time a little in the Championship whilst we rebuild in a measured manner. I've quite liked some of the acquisitions we've made but I just don't understand why we haven't brought in any defenders, especially as we've lost a handful. At this rate, my best hope of being near the play offs will be replaced by a hope to avoid relegation. Coupled with the shambolic pre-season, it all looks so amateurish!

And I don't understand all the folks on here who say that the transfer window is open for a few more weeks yet. We've seen in the past how late recruits struggle to get up to speed with their new team mates. In those instances, the "gel" word has been much in evidence, both from various managers and on this forum.

No-one would come close to the amount we laid out for him so it was the only way to get rid without making a big loss. Ramsinand, I guess, are hoping he has a decent PL season which might make him worth summat this time next year.

Because Southampton were looking at a replacement for Alderweild, who's gone to Spurs. They weren't willing to pay 8 million for him,but were open to taking him on a year's loan with the option to buy him, should he impress enough through the season! So expect the duffer to be back with us in a years time!
