With all the talk about the supposed £35m that we have to spend, and how we are even struggling to spend that, or using too much of it on pointless fee's such as Helicopter fee's from the Airport to the training ground.

It does make you wonder, what would we have done had Andy Carroll not gone to Liverpool, after all, it was thanks to him that we have this money in the first place. Logically, we would have no money, and would really be in the ****.

We have £35m, which wages and signing on fee's are included in the money that comes out of the famous number. It does make me wonder, what is going to happen to the money that we make on ticket sales and merchandise sales in the next four to five years, the length of these players contracts which are supposedly already paid off.

I know that we would be up **** creek if we kept this squad going into the first game. Enrique is going, and I still expect Barton, Ranger and Routledge to leave, as well as Guthrie and Perch.

Where will that leave us? A thin squad, any injuries and we are screwed, and they are bound to happen. We just can't rely on Shola, Best and Lovenkrands to form a partnership with Ba, it just won't work. We need at least 2 strikers imo, as the three above are ****ing useless in my honest opinion, and if we are to look to the future, why not get them in now. Who can honestly say Best is going to lead us up the table? Bollocks, the only way would be down.

I am a pessimist, I know it, and I believe many NUFC fans are and we struggle to look on the brightside. We have a cracking midfield AT THE MOMENT, but with Barton heading out I feel, it won't look as good. The defence is good AT THE MOMENT, but we all know Enrique will be leaving, then it just doesn't look as good. Strikeforce is terrible AT THE MOMENT, and with us struggling to spend any decent money that will provide us with a 15 goal striker, its just going to stay the same.

So, where would we be without the £35m? We wouldn't have Cabaye, Ba or Marveaux, we would have Kuqi, Van Aanholt on loan and possibly another loan signing. So in that sense we must be thankful. But with everything to do with a transfer coming out of the £35m, which effectively should be £40m with the sale of Nolan, I seriously hope that with the millions upon millions that they will raise with ticket sales and merchandise, that we will have a budget every transfer window whilst those players have their contracts here.

Pardew has gone from confident, to feeling mugged off. I think we all have. But why are we surprised? We knew it wasn't going to be spent on transfer fee's alone, and I can't believe some people still think like that.

We will be bottom half at best at the moment, I am really worried. Our first team looks really good, but what happens when suspensions and injuries want to play out? We're ****ed.

I'm worried but as I've said before and I said to Sunderland fans a few weeks back, judge the players brought in August 31 and things look better for them now having signed 8 players.

I'm not worried about Sunderland at all, they have got some depth now, but no real change in quality is it?

Heard a few Darlo fans were looking to make a bit of trouble from the station. Was thinking maybe the people going on the train should get together and discuss sharing taxi's to the ground. It wouldn't be expensive among 4 or 5 sharing. They'll no doubt let away fans have a drink at the ground won't they?

Your midfield is strong, so nowt too bad is going to happen, but you're right in that unless you get some strikers in you will not be going anywhere fast. Ba is good, but those knees might not hold up and the others will only score if you make loads of chances, which TBF you should. It's not pessimism, but realism.

Tom FK off bout' Best is ****! <rage time>

    :D

Edit : Seriously though I consider Best to be a level above Shola/Lover but not on level with Ba. Fair enough?

That's what I feared. I do think we will get a striker, but he won't be anything of good crop. Erding maybe still on the cards but very doubtful. I honestly can't think of anyone that we can get, realistically.

This is why I was always apprehensive to partake in those "where would you spend the 35 million" threads, outlining our exact spendings on specific players. However fun it might have been to dream, I think we all knew that the full whack was never going to be spent, as you said. It's definitely the wise thing to do though, spend it on wages as well as actual transfer fees.

I'm also still not sure on Pardew. I don't know whether to think that Pardew initially thought he was getting a lot to spend and, like us, has been left feeling mugged off, or whether he really did know that there was never going to be much to spend on transfer fees, and has just been sweet talking us with all the "the money is going to be invested 100% into the squad" quotes. It's not as if I don't trust him or anything, I just honestly don't know what to think.
It is a bit too early though, and I'd rather we took our time over the money we spend. It's not as if we're going to have this money every single transfer window, and I'd much rather get it right the first time - as it ain't gonna happen again. So I'm reserving any judgment until the end of the window, as many of us are. I'm not going to get pessimistic at doing naff all recently, but I'm not going to get optimistic at having signed Cabaye Ba and Marveaux - as these still need to be followed up with more decent signings. I'm just gonna keep my trap shut, and wait.

I'm not too bothered at missing out on Zog and Taylor. Striker is priority. Get that sorted then they can do what they want.

But overall, I'm happy with the situation we're in. We're Carroll-less, but who cares. We could significantly strengthen our team due to his loss. No one player makes a team, we all know that. In January, I was gutted. But right now? Content. For now. We'll see.

Also Tom I don't like your negativity towards things. But hey each to there own, I'm pretty happy with the ways things are going so far. AS LONG AS WE KEEP JOSE and add a NEW ST to partner/compete with Ba & maybe depth in certain areas(wings/full-back/cb) then we'll be laughing. <ok>

The £35m is not the only money we have at our disposal. I would have thought, without the sale of Carroll, we would have invested around £10m into the squad, including all the fees attached to transfers. So I reckon that £45m is our "budget" for all transfers, attached fees and upgrades. I reckon we've spent around £20-£25m so far since Carroll's sale.

    1. Tiote contract
    2. Donaldson contract
    3. Richardson contract
    4. Ferguson contract
    5. Demba Ba contract and attached agent, admin and registration fees
    6. Marveaux contract and attached agent, admin and registration fees
    7. Cabaye transfer fee, contract and attached agent, admin and registration fees
    8. Abeid contract and attached agent, admin and registration fees
    9. Training grounds upgrades
    10. Stadium upgrades

Half our budget gone on 10 pieces of business. Plenty of time to make good use of the rest!

Pardew should of read the small print before he made his statement about the £35m
at the time of the transfer Pardew was just getting his feet under the table
so he wanted to get the fans on his side by making this statement of the £35m
basically i think Pardew should of kept his mouth shut about it, but we all know who is pulling Pardew's strings
Ashley is like a dodgey double glazing salesman says one thing and delivers another

How this thread had 1 star originally I don't know? Just because it disagreed with your own personal opinion, don't knock it straight away... He gives a good argument and it's excellently written. That's what it's all about, right?

Enrique knows that the fat man won't invest and therefore he won't want to dedicate himself to a new contract. If we spend money on bringing in a top striker or two AND strengthening at the back... then I think he might be more inclined to sign on.

However, as things are going we can expect Jose to leave and minimal additional expenditure in this transfer window. If for instance Jose went, that would leave Mike Ashley with nearly £50m in his pocket + the revenue that the club is generating from season ticket/ticket sales, merchandise, TV rights, Sponsorship etc

Didn't notice it only had a 1 star rating at any point. I'd have thought even a WUM would have appreciated the lay out and presentation. A very good 5 star article in my opinion.
