Would like one of the midfielders to be central and goal side of the guy closest to the ref, otherwise looks fine to me. 2cbs against 1 forward, and RB against their lw. Lb is a bit out of position so ideally would like him tucked in a bit more but if we were attacking just before losing the ball then he has loads of open space to move into so seems right.

Were 3 and a half v. 2 a the back really which looks fine.

    1. Can't see pen area so cannot say where our GK is positioned

    2. Both CBs could be accused of being too deep, neither is actually picking up the out ball utd player has to front man (i think RVP on half way line).

    3. were we playing 3-4-3 in this game for first time? not sure

    4. I only see 9 lfc outfield players...

    5. You can see that we lost it and the midfield positions are very very poor. The utd player on the ball has an easy 10 yard pass to a player who then is ready to just run 50 yards as there's zero midfielder able to get to him.

    6. on the LW slot our RB is right on top of his man and this could allow a run in behind.

In short there are 2/3 out balls for the utd player and zero actual pressure on the ball.

actually i think i can see where's walley for last lfc player.. hiding behind the man on the ball... theres no pressure on there at all.

Point 2: I think they are two deep and should be slightly closer to the half way line
Point 5: I don't think they are poor if the centre halves had pushed up

I see the defence not going with the team. Others see the midfield pushing too high.

Therein lies the problem I don't think rogers can press sometimes and drop off at others with the centre back pairings he goes with. It's causing confusion

    because this is what's happening

    upload_2015-7-29_10-23-52.png

When pressing we leave too much space in the middle leading to goal.

example of LFC 3: tottenham 0

    now:

    change can for gerrard..
    milner for allen
    Benteke for balotelli
    Coutinho for sterling
    Firmino for sturrdige.
    skertl for lovern

    all improvements no?

I think LFc can be a big threat going forward next year of we go at sides.

Thing is it's all well and good changing formation but if you can't execute it correctly then you will have the same problems. The fix for the 433 is very simple either play compact and press or play a high line and press. It's a headache because part of it is because players we have are suited best to one or the other and the other reason is communication must be poor amongst the players, I guess that's why rogers has brought in the new AM, apparently communication is his strength.

    I agree.

Jones was in goal.... he'd never be out of goal.

You want your keeper in that picutre starting at the edge of his box with his position in line with ball and centre of goal... ie slightly towards right side of box.... if a ball goes in to the right back channel you can sprint out and clear.

If you are there CBs can be up on half way line... especially if that is RVP. he is NEVER outpacing either CB.

I think the CMs are too far froward personally but not by much. They are all too wide more than two far forward par se.. allen, gerrard and henderson should be in pic.. where? none are central.

I agree that there is too much space. I'd rather said space be in behind and a smart offside and sweeping up form GK than acres with 2/3 out balls to pick.

Again in the shown piccture Moreno is LB and he can see the issue at hand. he's already moving back as the man on ball is facing our goal... he does get back but lets mata completely go and he scores in his area...

The fix should be in 433 almost entirely be done at CM. two sit or two go press of the 3.

I agree communication is lacking. Thsi is why i want can as holding CM as he'll be the one talking. the only talking henderson does is with the ref.

    This is very true.

If we want to play the high press this is how it should be.

    welllll........ perhaps slightly extreme..

edge of D yeah... i mean how many times a career with courtois face charlie adam :bandit: 99/100 he's in perfect spot and allows cheslea even with the lumps of terry and chaill to play higher and more compact.

Remembering cheslea have ivanovic who starting position is half way line according to opta, cahill and terry who are not quick.... they should have more issue... terry can read a game and ivanoivic is solid as a rock but courtois buys them a lot of time to funnel back.

I expect we will mainly going to set up like this:

    ----------------------------Lucas(Holding)----------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------Milner(B2B)---------------------
    ---------------Henderson(Driving)------------------------------------------

The full backs will add the width.

In front of that I expect us to switch between:

    Firmino----------------------Coutinho
    ----------------Benteke----------------

    And

    --------------Firmino---------------
    -----Sturridge-----Benteke-------

I think Rodgers will want pac on the point of the diamond.

How many goals did we concede from set pieces last year? I can't find a stat and it felt like a lot.

Always felt that the players never understood what job they were being asked to do or were too Ill disciplined to keep to their own job. Do we think that will have changed much?

I hadadream the other night where it was the opening game of the season. Our team was this:

    Mignolet
    Clyne Skrtel Lovren Moreno
    Henderson Can
    Milner Coutinho Firmino
    Benteke

We won. If that team is correct I am psychic.

A lot early on. But it got better once Mignolet found some form as he started to leave his line more and be vocal.

Hopefully SOD and Gary Mac will help see to that. Whether or not they will remains to be seen, of course.

    It will be 4-3-3
    Can, Henderson and Milner midfield
    Coutinho and Firmino in front
    Benteke up top
