Is he actually wrong? Arsenal can't rely on the same old excuses if it's a poor season.

He's a wum and this thread suggests he's a good one. If you win the league or at least stop Chelsea from pissing it again then he'll have to eat his words.

Are they? Looks a bit like people are getting wound up by him.

87 has got his calculator out. Serious stuff.

He doesn't need to, sky have done it for him (at Jose's suggestion). Turns out Jose has spent nearly £100m more than Wenger since he came back <ok>

Interesting. I assume that's gross rather than net.

Don't be taken for a mug mate. Maureen is a meltdown specialist and this is just one more example.

I don't like the bloke but he gets results and seems to always get the better of Wenger/Arsenal. Can't really be having meltdowns if he keeps winning stuff.

Spend is spend, net only means you have lost players to scrape some money together <ok>

Gross spend is irrelevant in comparison. If you sell a striker for £100m and buy a replacement for £50m you can't be 'buying' the league more than the manager who added a £40m striker and let no one go.

If you sell a player for £100m and put it in your bank you are £100m better off but a player short, if you then spend £50m on a replacement he has cost you £50m. Spend is spend <ok>

So by your logic in my example both teams would be buying the title despite one finishing with £50m more in the bank and one with £40m less.

If you sell something at work for below cost price your boss isn't going to be happy no matter how much you say "sales are sales".

I wouldn't say any team was buying the league, I would say all teams strengthen as much as they can every year.

If you purchase something (regardless of cost) I am pretty sure your boss will notice how much you have spent. Not sure what you are getting at

@Watford_R I actually agree with what you're saying with regards to net spend as it is the most impartial and objective measure but the fact remains that Chelsea have spent a lot in the earlier years where RA took over. As a result, they have managed to end up purchasing the right group of quality players with a winning formula and that has meant it has not been imperative for them to spend as excessively as they have done historically.

What I would say is that the net spend figure in Chelsea's favour is slightly distorted from the ludicrous once-off fee they received from PSG for David Luiz.

This isn't even a debate, without sugar daddy Abrhomovic in 2004, Chelski would be nowhere near where they are right now, irrespective of how much 'less' they have been spending in the last 3-4 years, which in reality, they aren't, but let's just pretend they are.

Even Chelski fans know this, they have bought their way to success, if this ain't true, where was the similar success pre-2004? It was half a century without a bloody league title win.

Chelski fans know this as I said, and so does Mo, that's why they do have a chip on their shoulder and spout such bullshit accusing others of 'buying the title' or the best one yet, when Chelski fans go about Chelski 100 years of history lol, yeah, sure.....These dumb type of things they're coming out with is just an indication of the chip on their shoulder, just wait and see, won't be long before Chelski fans start drumming on about 'having the best fans in the country and are the best supported team' to escape the other chip on their shoulder that for a supposed 'big club' they have quite a **** following, they can't even properly sell out their Wembley allocation, this isn't even in Cardiff anymore for them to come up with excuses. Going to be hilarious if they do move into Wembley though for a few years, and half of Wembley will be empty.

You'd think so, but the bloke is **** scared of losing hence Wenger's comments about him being scared of failure in the first place. For somebody who does win, he is incredibly insecure.

The 'specialist in failure' comment would have been a decent WUM had it not come before we won the FA cup and mourinho won **** all. As it was it made him look like a prick.

Mourinho is clearly insecure about Arsenal and Wenger as he can't shut up about us. He obviously sees us as a threat. The comments about us trying to buy the title are laughable of course, especially coming from somebody who doesn't know how to do anything but spend and then still dishes up 19th century football. If we do beat them on Sunday expect Mourinho to have another little meltdown or try and brush it aside as only bring a friendly.

In a nutshell, he is a classless little man who is insecure and I expect to see more meltdowns and bizarre excuses again this season.

I always thought that, besides Chelsea being the originsl moneybags team buying titles, they also stockpiled promising youngsters 3-6 years ago for inflated transfers then kept them on loan for the entirety of their time at the club, then ditch the average ones and sell the good ones years after signing. Then that money helps balance transfers like the £26m for squad player juan cuadaro or £32m for william.

Meaning in an isolated period of time it looks like tgeir spend isnt too bad. But if you stretch it back further and get your calculators out then you maybe surprised (or not).

Either way gross or nett, Mourinho has still vastly outspent Arsenal.

In the last 5 seasons Chelsea have spent: £416,509,000 gross and £186,159,000 nett

Whereas Arsenal have spent : £253,625,000 gross and £99,025,000 nett

When you go back even further, the spending gap gets even bigger.

It's a bit of an arbitrary point in time to choose. Since he came back to Chelsea it's been a relatively small net spend. I appreciate their huge expenditure beforehand made that possible.

Maureen is quite an insecure fellow. I thought he was funny initially but he's become quite an annoying git. He really needs to show more class and give credit where its due. Bringing up the money issue is just ludicrous with his and Abe's history. He does see us as a threat, and has done so since he came back. He also knows we have a very good squad and are quite close, if not ready to challenge. But this is the way he is, he always seems to try and create controversy to gain some psychological advantage. Its a shame that a man who has won so much needs to descend to such lowly lengths. Create your excitement on the pitch and not in news conferences. I would have so much more respect for the man if he made his team play exciting football, its not like he doesn't have the bloody players to do it! Wenger will always get more respect for the way he conducts himself and how he plays his football.
