How were we, in any way shape or form, rumbled? <laugh>
    Ya melt.

Add Arsenites to the people who refer to their losing point as a "card" that other fans pull out.
Yes, it means you have no point.
Call it a card if you wish. <laugh>

Trying to belittle it by calling it a "card" doesn't devalue its relevance.

It definitely shows some desperation when all you have to dig up in a attempt as a comeback is a spurious half story from over a century ago.

It's like digging out a 100 year old copy of the Daily Sport and claiming that it's evidence for finding a London bus on the Moon <laugh>

Anyway. Bickering about who got to where they are how is rather pointless.

If football really wants to create an even playing field. Then should we be looking at an NFL draft type of scenario ? or a transfer spending cap for the top placed teams ? Or sky money being distributed to lower placed teams first to enable them to buy better players ?

A half story? The man was banned from football for life.
    That's a fact, not a vague claim.

How is Arsenal buying their place in the league any different to how Chelsea have done it, barring time?
You were failing and a rich man paid a lot of money to change that.
If you're against that happening, then you're supporting the wrong team.

Norris was banned for making a payment to himself from Arsenal's coffers and rightly so. Not for any 'bribery'. True he lobbied for Arsenal to be promoted to the football league after the end of the First World War and it was at Spurs expense (hence the bitterness) but Spurs (and Chelsea) finished bottom of the league before football was suspended due to the war. So wouldn't have merited a place anyway and some years earlier Spurs were expelled from the southern league for changing fixtures and causing that league problems by their failed attempts to leave it.

The only clubs to have been proven to be corrupt during that time were Liverpool and Man Utd who were charged with match fixing ( which incidentally caused Chelsea to finish in the bottom two)

There was never any evidence of bribery against Norris regarding Arsenal's election to the football league. No complaint was made at the time from Spurs and no allegation of bribery was made until the 1930's when Arsenal started dominating and Spurs got pissed off. Their only premise for making the allegation is 'it must have been bribery' because they weren't elected themselves, despite the reasons already stated.

There was no evidence at the time for bribery on Norris' behalf, there never has been any evidence since and to this day there is a reward available for anybody who can prove that Norris did anything wrong during Arsenal's election to the football league. Not surprisingly that reward still goes unclaimed because the allegation is bullshit. It's a classic case of bitterness and whinging about a situation long after the event has passed. At best it's a half story at worst it's simply a century old equivalent of a tabloid bitch fest.

That you cannot see the irony of this is hilarious.
12 years on and you are still moaning about Sugar Daddies, even after UEFA step in with their FFP. <doh>

Piskie mate please stop using The Facts and The Truth when exchanging posts with Chelsea and Spurs fans as they are unable to understand these concepts.

perhaps Chelsea/Spurs fans (should they be called Churs or Spelsea fans) would like their teams to merge, that way Spurs might win something this Century, and Chelsea might play attractive football.

I'm not moaning at all, I'm simply pointing out that Chelsea wouldn't be anywhere near where they are if it wasn't for their sugar daddy. You seem to be the one getting your knickers in a twist because I've shown that the allegation that PNP made and you champed at, has no basis. <ok>

You keep coming out with this line, but as usual you are talking out of your backside.

Unless you can prove me wrong and show the evidence for Norris 'bribing' Arsenal's place in the Football league ?

I mentioned earlier that this thread should be renamed the 'Tottenham Hotspur wing of the Chelsea supporters club', but maybe it should be the other way around ?

HAIG and PNP have been waving their Chelsea blue pom poms on here for a while now and they seem to be as thick as thieves on this issue of Norris bribing Arsenal's place in the football league, despite no evidence whatsoever to support that claim.

    Who said anything about bribery?
He spent a load of money on the club and also relocated it, which put you in the position that you're in now.
Even if you choose to ignore the obvious facts about your promotion, you can't ignore the that.
His illegal payments to players can also be ignored, if you want.

You're moaning about a club being given a financial advantage by a rich man, when that exact thing happened to your club.
The circumstances were even more murky, which adds to your hypocrisy, but the basic facts remain.
Why was it ok for Arsenal but not ok for Chelsea?

Trying to compare the two is completely disingenuous. Half of Arsenal's first team were killed in the first world war and the club was on its knees as a result. No football had been played since 1915 and Arsenal needed investment at the time simply to survive due to the horrors of war, rebuild the club from the ground up, replacing the dead players and breath new life into what would have otherwise ceased to exist.

Chelsea were on their knees because they were £80m in debt and about to go to the wall. Abramovich stepped in and not only saved them, but then proceeded to invest £1bn into the squad which artificially propelled Chelsea to the top, whilst at the same time they were posting hundreds of millions of pounds in losses as an operating business.

The two circumstances are like chalk and cheese.

If you want to look at bribery and allegations of corruption, then look no further than Abramovich, who amongst several misdemeanours actually admitted to paying millions of dollars in political bribes and protection fees to obtain a big share of Russia's aluminium and oil assets and who was arrested for theft of Government property.

This thread demonstrates how, if you want to, you can make an argument for anything if you're desperate enough - literally make any old bollox sound remotely convincing.

Arsenal as much they are rivals, are a club steeped in tradition and history. Third most successful club in the league, their success in the league as well as in domestic cups has been built steadily over a significant period of time. The players they've bought and sold have depended on reasonably sound financial policy. They've earned their success in the traditional sense as we regard it in football.

How the fck you can compare it to a club that was bought by Blofeld a decade ago and had hundreds of millions pummelled into it, is beyond me...and would be to anyone who takes a step back and looks at it objectively. Simples fgs.

Norris took over Arsenal and moved the club before the war, having failed in his attempts to merge them with Fulham.
    Absolute fiction.
