I thought he only had 12 months on his contract though? I think that at the present time, QPR can just about hold off and squeeze for that fee. However there will come a time that either he will agitate for a move regardless what he says, or QPR will have to bite the bullet.

Personally I'd like him but I'm not convinced we will be the best option he has.

He does only have 12 months, hence the relatively low fee quoted.

He's constantly said he wants to stay in the South. I thought Palace would have been a great fit for him and still do but they've gone and got Bamford.

Such a relatively low fee that all the Clubs interested have been beating QPR's door down to buy him. He's 26yo (I think) and has one season of note in the Premier League. He's also failed a medical previously and has a slight question mark on his fitness.

£15M is too high for someone falling under the above description with only one year left on his contract.

Ultimately he is a QPR player and fair play to them for looking to get the max for him as there's plenty money floating around the Premier League at the moment. One of the interested Clubs will probably panic before the end of the window. All QPR have to do is hold their nerve.

When you've got Jordan Rhodes quoted at £14m, Bentke at £32.5m and 20 Premier League teams pumped full of exorbitant Sky cash it's really not a bad price at all. The bloke is a lot more than a goalscorer.

26 is a great age. He should improve over the next 2-3 years.

He has only got 1 year on his contract. They are in a position where they need to sell. Them and us know that he won't let it get to the stage where he ends up in the championship next season and no one else has met that asking price yet. Its business. I personally don't think we should cough up the first figure they quote at us in this situation.

    Lens >>> Wijnaldum

Kaboul+Coates >>> Mbemba (although I think this lad has talent)

As much as I know Dick will be out of a job in a few months because for some reason Sunderland are allergic to playing like they're interested until someone mentions them as a cert for relegation, I think they've quietly done the better business.

What he is worth to QPR and what he is worth to a buying team will be two completely different things.

If QPR feel that the benefit to getting a year out of him in the Championship is £15 million then they probably wont sell for less. If he helps secure you promotion then the financial benefits of that will be more than £15 million and so it may well be worth getting a year out of him and then watching him leave on a free next year. If the player is after the best posible wage then it may be worth him waiting too, as he will be in a better position to negotiate a good wage if there is no fee involved - though he will need to offset that against his international ambitions, as playing in the championship will make it much harder for him to keep his place in the international squad.

For buying clubs most will be willing to wait until at least January for a knock down price, or next summer for no fee, rather than shell out £15 million for a player who has only one season of goal-scoring in the Premier league. When a player has a reasonable amount of time left on a contract then you know that you have to pay over the odds to get your man, which is why we have seen some clubs gamble high transfer fees for strikers. That wont happen with Austin though. I'd love to see him come to us, but I don't expect it to happen as I can't see the club authorising the fee that QPR are holding out for.

Perhaps it would be better all round if he plays out the last year of his contract for you, bangs in a load of goals in the championship, and then has his pick of top clubs to go to on a free next summer. If QPR want to hold out for the full £15 million then I expect that to be what happens.

I'd be surprised if no one bids £15m this Summer. The question is more whether it's a club and part of the country he wants to go to. Personally if I was Pochettino I'd be shipping Adebayor off to Villa and offering £15m tomorrow.

Benteke had four years left on his deal and had scored goals consistently over 2-3 years in the Premier League. In 12 months you won't get a bean for Austin, that along with the fact he's only scored at a decent rate for one season at the top level and that he needs Premier League to make the Euro's means the buying club has all the power.

I'd say 10-12 million would be a fairer valuation, but hey, we get 35m for Carroll so he's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I just don't think anyone is willing to pay the 15m you want.

I mean we've signed an unproven Serbian kid for 13m, for 2m more we could have had Austin. Villa have signed Ayew for 12m, again for just 3m for they could have had him too. Nobody values him at 15m because in 12 months he's free or in 6 months he'll be 6m tops. It'll play out for another fortnight at most and then he'll go for 12m. If ourselves, Villa or Spurs had bid 12m and it got rejected like Leicester did he'd have handed in a transfer request and he'd be gone by now. It's only because he didn't fancy Leicester and they're the only team to bid so far that he hasn't moved yet.

You also have to look at Austin's England ambitions and next years Euros. If he is ambitious as opposed to mercenary then I would expect he will push for a transfer as he won't make the England squad in the Fizzy Pop League.

Also that's why I don't think he will go to Citeh or Chelski as he won't get enough game time to give himself a fighting chance for the England squad.

Obviously I've never met him and I don't know him but he comes across as an old fashioned type player who wants to play as opposed to getting splinters in his backside. And I think he would love to get into the England squad for next years Euros. That's why ultimately I think he will push for a move and QPR will sell him to get something rather than nothing. Also they won't want to leave it to late as they will need to get a replacement in.

You might well be right. If he is someone that Steve McLaren thinks will fit into his plans then I'd love to see us forego the extra £3 million and just get him. It would be over the odds for a player with only a year left on his contract, no matter how successful a season he had last year, but if it helps you climb an extra 2 places in the league then you get your £3 million back in prize money. The problem with that is that if its a club like Spurs, who finished in 5th place, then it will take more than the addition of Charlie Austin to see them jump to 3rd. In truth, it would take more than the addition of Austin to see them hold onto 5th.

Pochettino seems to like a certain type of player though, and I wonder if Austin is a little too much of a traditional centre forward for the system he wants to play. There is also the fact that Spurs have a very similar player in Kane. Perhaps they don't see the need to buy someone so similar to what they already have and instead would prefer to spend the money elsewhere.

So far everything is rumours and paper talk. A lot of people earning a living by regurgitating gossip and rumours to sell papers and web hits. None of us really know what is going on behind the scenes.

Ok, so now I'm confused. Are you saying real life is the ceiling? That's what I saw when I opened my eyes and looked up to the skies. Or are you saying that JPF is real life - easy cum anywhere the wind blows?

    This is my view also.
I think his wages aren't an issue.. it's purely a bit of brinkmanship over the QPR price tag now.
