Technically, that film should have been called, The King and Me

Not necessarily. If she was telling the story from the point of view that the King wanted to marry her then you would be correct. If, on the other hand, she was suggesting that she and the King were getting married then the use of I would be accurate. It's a shame all the people responsible for the book and screenplay are dead as we could have asked them.

Sorry, Dan, but you are utterly incorrect on this one.

If the title of the film was, for example, The King and I are going to the pet shop to buy suet balls for the finches, then that would be fine, but that is simply not the case here and you bloody well know it, treacle.

One should never end a sentence with 'and I'.

It's not a sentence though Ponders so surely it doesn't matter in this context.

It is a sentence, Dan. One word can make a sentence. If the title was merely part of a sentence, it would have been preceded/proceeded by an ellipsis.

The King and I is merely a pretentious and plainly incorrect attempt at saying The King and Me.

    So there.

<laugh>. I used to teach my teachers correct grammar, and there is nothing I love more than returning my kids' school reports with all the mistakes highlighted.

    Good joke, though, M.

And don't forget I earn my (imaginary) living from writing.

When I was in the Scrubs I studied English and my thesis was about the evolution of grammar and how its misuse has led to some of the biggest conflicts and tragedies in history.

Then stop splicing independent clauses with commas. You are better than that, M. :emoticon-0147-emo:
