Nonsense! Look at how we played after the Sunderland match. It was a springboard to glory that Redders somehow managed to eventually dismantle. Things are looking good, and there's even a chance we might get a result against Everton. Hopefully Byram won't be too good, as it's essential we don't lose him for our promotion push.
Well said WJ

You saved yourself lots of money with the wc draw.

Pre season is about assessing the players and finding out who are the best players in certain positions, it's not really important whether we win or lose.

Chippy,

I agree with you about our midfield at moment.

Last season we were regularly walked over in midfield, chances are it'll happen this season with same players unless Rosler has changed something in them, mentality and approach is everything. For me our midfield would be our biggest worry.

Everton will be our biggest and more beneficial test I think, it'll be a good challenging game to have before our season starts, it'll give everyone a chance to see who's more suited in what position.

Bring on Burnley.

Evening one and all. Having read through the posts I have to find myself agreeing with Chippy. We haven't won a pre-season game. We know at this stage it's all about "fitness", "bonding" and "formation" WTF are we saying, players don't get fit unless we lose?? Or if we keep losing, do we not have the players good enough for the style we want to play??
Unless we're playing teams much better than we will face in the championship then I do think there should be some concern. Losing is not a good habit.

Everyone agrees with me eventually.... Lol
Last time I checked you get points for scoring goals and stopping the other team scoring. There are no bonuses for running further or faster or playing pretty tippy tappy.

I'm with El on this. I think we'll go up comfortably this season. I expect an auto, but concede that it might be via the play-offs. You can't read too much into pre-season games - it's only a part of a build-up for the season, and the only part we get to see, Everyone complained when we played rubbish teams last pre-season. Now they're moaning that we're being beaten by teams that most PL clubs would struggle to beat - and away from home too!

PL, here we come!
A few years ago Newcastle had just been relegated and in a pre season friendly lost 6-1 to Leyton Orient they went on to be promoted

But we are playing teams who are much better than we will face in the championship. Hoffenheim finished 8th in the bundesliga last season and Frankfurt finished 9th in the Bundesliga last season. And then we are playing Everton who are a very well established premier league club.

I complained like hell that we played rubbish pre season teams in the past, I would much prefer to see us losing away to quality teams like this as it gives a far better reflection of where we are at.

Hopefully Rosler and Cellino will see from these games where we need to improve, something that must be impossible to do and give false illusion when you're stuffing part timers.

At the moment I can't see that we are good enough to go up, at the same time I don't expect us to flirt with the bottom 6 again
