Silvio Marić rubbish .. anders Anderson crap ... the earliest I can think back when I was a lad was billy whitehirst what a pile of crap ..
but saying that they all were at that time ..

    best ones

shearer . andy cole , rob lee , ginola and gavin peacock was a great player I thought for where we were at the time .. apart from shearer they didn't cost that much

Take your pick from that shower of **** that Kenenth Dogleash brought in after he shifted out half your team.

Bobby Robson knew how to build a side, the pace was unreal in his NUFC side.

Woodgate - 28 games in 18 months isn't great but isn't terrible. When he played for us he wasn't just the best defender I've seen for us he made our entire defence (Bramble + Woodgate = great defence and stats to back it up; Bramble + anyone else = disaster). We also made 5 million on him, which doesn't go amiss. If it wasn't for injuries he was, in my opinion, as good as Rio.

    '92 onwards

    Best signings:
Beardsley, Venison both provided vital experience to a relatively young squad
Shearer - pride, passion and he could play a bit too, set out our statement of intent as a club
    Given -
Solano - that good we signed him twice!
Lovenkrands - right player at the right time.

    Worst: There's a lot more than 5!!
Boumsong, Amdy Faye Babayaro (all within the same month if I recall correctly)
Cacapa and Gerimi were both great players previously, but weren't physically right by the time we signed them.
    Maric
    Cort
    Luque
    Marcelino
    Goma
    Domi
    Dumas

We also have made some of the worst loan signings
    Simon Ireland
    Facundo Ferreyra
    Nacho Gonzales
    Daniel Cordone

On best, take out Beresford and in Cabaye.

On worst, out Kitson and in Xisco.

    And then I agree.

Know what you mean in terms of quality, but Bez didn't go missing for half a season and never went on strike, so keeps his place.

Xisco was forced into the club by a poisonous cockney dwarf, so like Nacho Gonzalez doesn't really count. Kitson was fcking gash, with floppy hair and even floppier feet. Decent at Derby, a disaster at NUFC.

For Windy, yep, Kelly was a top signing (£300k?) but I've also had to leave out Micky Quinn, Big Dunc, Batty and Albert.

One for the worst - Patrick Kluivert. Before he came, one of my all time fave players, was fantastic at Ajax and I was dumbstruck at his arrivel - couldn't have done much worse if he tried.

Don't agree he was as good as Rio without injuries, he was far better than Rio.

He had an amazing gift, he was two seconds ahead of the game, you only see that in special players, such as Scholes. He would have been the best English defender of all time I think if he wasn't such a crock.

On what basis mate? I do like JT as a footballer but you're never gonna convince me he was ahead of Woodgate on a technical level. JT is a clever player in that he gets under his opponents skin, but other than that he's just very, very good organisationally and tactically he's very good at following instructions.

The argument is cometely flawed anyhow because it's based on a huge 'IF' where Woodgate is concerned.

JT and Rio were completely different types of central defenders. Let's not pretend JT has won the ECL either, he's a fraud who lost his bottle in the two biggest moments of his career. Rio never.

are u going on about a slip ,, about terry, well he is a defender and it could of happened to anyone I suppose .

terry already won cl so nowt spoilt for him ..he won lots of things .. so I wouldn't call him a bottler ..

as for woodgate nowt really I can remember that stands out apart from injury ...terry is never injured . played in w cups always up for the fight a true captain which woodgate never was ...

Woodgate never was, correct which is the point of the debate because he never stayed fit long enough, much like Ledley King.

If you can point me in the direction of John Terry winning the Champions League I'd be very grateful, from where I was sat he wasn't even on the pitch although it didn't stop him pretending he'd won it, despite his best efforts in the semi to **** it all up for them.

On this one I have to agree with Don Juan. Even if he was a walking(limping) sick note Woodgate for our quality was streets ahead of Terry. Woodgate was like a modern Bobby Moore. Terry whilst good and always(ish) fit still was no nowhere near as good a footballer/defender as Woodgate.

For me Woodgate is simply the best defender I have ever seen playing for Newcastle.
