Just read on the BBC website that President Obama's failure to pass "common sense gun safety laws" in the US is the greatest frustration of his presidency.
This sums it all up for me - "If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it's less than 100. If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it's in the tens of thousands,"

    Rant over!!!!

The insanity of the gun laws in the States continues. The NRA is so politically powerful it is unlikely to ever change.

I can't believe that in some states, 'open carry' is allowed - you can be walking round your local supermarket and the person next to you is wearing a pistol!!!! Don't they realise that the days of the Wild West ended centuries ago????/

They are maniacs JR. Nobody would ever get elected if they dared to talk about restricting the right to carry arms. I have no sympathy therefore when things go wrong because to add to this cocktail, there are thousands and thousands of total nut jobs of which any could at any time start a mini massacre. I will never go there again, New York is a great city but at what cost? Someone I know is looking to do a drive down route 66 as a holiday and he has to be interviewed at the US Embassy to get permission to drive. If he fails to tell them about any traffic violation i.e. doing 40 in a 30 limit wenty years ago he could be refused entry at the airport with no prior notice. My advice, stay well away!

Pro gun nuts are even opposed to having stricter background checks. It's all part of the prison industry most likely. The more people with guns, the more guns violence, the less people feel safe and the more likely people are to turn to crime, especially in poorer areas, that means more people go to the for profit prisons. Same with the reclassification of marijuana, a huge swathe of people against it are Prison lobbyists and the like who know they can fill out their prisons with no violent offenders for something as little as carrying a bit of weed. It's all bloody disgraceful.

And it's the way the Tories want this country to be run!

Mate, there's a few big 'leaps of faith' in your argument, but overall I like it...

What's your take on the Moon Landings? Real or faked..?

Definitely real, it was easier for them to go to the moon than fake the moon landing in 1969!

Well yeah, but I'm thinking of the technology that got them there, maybe reverse-engineered alien tech from the Roswell Incident of 1947, it would kind of work with a 'leap of faith' or two...

We are talking of American gun controls and COTB manages to get an anti Tory jibe in. Priceless.

I always think that's the funniest bit, some morons deny the landings happened, but the camera technology didn't exist to fake it at the time!

Unfortunately Dave it seems so instilled that the American people have the right to carry guns that I don't see any change happening any day soon. <doh>

No president would get anywhere near the white house if he tried to ban guns. It has almost become America's identity!

There's a lad on one of our threads who's front door was 20 feet away from the car park where that guy was gunned down the other day by the cops, apparently he had caught his Mrs playing the field and threatened murder suicide, he pointed the gun at the kids and that's when they took him down.

Does anybody know if the cops have training on the firing range over there or does popping into the local neighbourhood usually suffice?

Which just about always has a gun of their own under the counter, at any given time, on given day, you could literally be caught up in the middle of a shoot out just popping out for a pint of milk. **** that.
