Leon Britton to return to Swansea City fold — but Dwight Tiendalli is facing exit

    Leon Britton and Dwight Tiendalli.

But Dwight Tiendalli looks to be edging towards the Liberty exit door with the Dutch defender not expected to be involved in either fixture.

Britton opted to miss Swansea's pre-season trip to Germany as he considers whether to leave the Liberty this summer having been told he cannot be guaranteed game-time next season.

    The Swansea legend

has attracted interest from America and the Championship but, with no sign of a deal being imminent, he is set to play some part as Swansea send squads to face Reading in Wycombe this evening (7.45pm) and Forest at the City Ground tomorrow (3pm).
Monk has made it clear that although Britton will not be a regular, he would be delighted if the 32-year-old chooses to stay on in SA1.

As things stand, Britton's future remains uncertain, but he will not be frozen out by his manager.

There is also likely to be a first appearance of pre-season for Jefferson Montero, who returned to training late having played for Ecuador in the Copa America

during the summer, while trialist keeper Josh Vickers may also be handed another opportunity to impress.

Monk is set to give a number of players game-time, with completely different teams expected to start the two games.

But it is thought unlikely the Swansea boss will start with his first-choice side for the opening-day trip to Chelsea

before the final warm-up game against Deportivo La Coruna next weekend.

Tiendalli was left out of the pre-season trip to Germany and appears to have little future under Monk.

Jordi Amat will also be missing this weekend, but that is because he is still recovering from a broken metatarsal. He could play against Deportivo if all goes to plan.

Its always been down to Leon if he wishes to stay, which is good news for us and I hope for him. As for Dwight, well he hasn't shone at the club, so I think a parting of ways might also be good for us and him. Though he has a year left on his contract, so that would have to paid off or him go to nother club and we pick up the rest of his wages.

Leon has vast experience of our game and his defensive midfield talents are second to none, so it was clear stupidity to freeze him out of the first team squad and I hope he gets the game time he deserves, this season will be tough, and I'm expecting some midfield injuries, and Leon will play his part and shine once again!...............<ok>

He wasn't frozen out Phil, the fact is others stepped up and done superbly in those positions, who would you drop to make way for Leon?

He is 32 now he's not going to be as sharp or as fit as 5 years ago, at that age he is close to retirement as a player, he is going to progressively get less and less game time.

Time stands still for no man Phil. Leon is now a squad player - but a very important one. He won't be first choice this year and I think everyone knows that.

Having said that. he is still one of our most important Club members. He has been the heartbeat of the team for the last decade and he knows the "Swansea Way" inside out. As his playing time decreases I hope he finds time to refine his coaching skills at the Club and become one of our more important backroom coaching staff in the future.

Agree Leon wont have much game time but now he has made his decision to stay it gives monk another option should things go wrong. I think his wife has had some influence with her suffering from homesickness in the past and moving to the states would be frightening for her.....I would want Leon to be gradually brought into the management and coaching roll as he studies for his badges, Leon has more knowledge than anyone about how we use the midfield and if he was younger he would still be the No1 choice but sadly time has moved on and we have to take advantage of the situation and use Leon to our advantage.....

I don't understand why they don't make him a player coach now, as he will know more about the passing game than those courses he will attend.

Because valley he is registered as a player and can still do a good job and also i dont think he can become a player/coach until he has some of his qualifications......he probably wants to try and fight for his place and give 100% trying to do that....He is the future i think as we dont want too many chiefs calling the shots in training...

With regards to ball retention, passing accuracy and moving off the ball, he is the chief. Let's hope Grimes, Jonjo, Ki and Cork etc continue to benefit from watching, seeing Leon in training etc <cheers>
