I think Squire ran very well and Rab gave him a good ride. Sadly the race was never made for him as after the withdrawals the pace was likely to be missing and he would have been a sitting duck in a sprint had he not made the running. As it was Rab gave him a positive ride and really made the other two show what they had and fight all the way. I think Squire comes out with credit, should not get put up further and once again shows what a game and giving horse he is, and that he will win races in this grade than pan out more favourably for him.

Squire was giving the winner a stone and the second 6lbs so, given only 6 runners and the not slow time (relative to other races), that was not a bad run at all.

Fully agree Ron - it was the weight that did him in the end .. lets hope he came home sound and maybe has another run in him yet . I'd like to see him at my local track Chester - though the track wouldn't suit it would give me the chance for a beer with the owners !!!

Well done Bluesky on the winner in the 4.00 <ok> and well done with Squire guy's. Wholehearted effort there again and nothing lost in finishing 3rd giving weight away. Any chance of a break and make all effort over 7f do ya's think?

I think that is Squire's 5th race on Good to Firm ground in 10 weeks. I would be slightly worried about how is legs might be standing up to that. He seems to be coping admirably but, given he's not the fastest finisher in the World, maybe this quick ground is not in his favour. I would be inclined to give him a break and aim to get him on a handy weight, on better ground, in a decent handicap. Could pick up some nice place money. Any views on that stick/Don?

Have to applaud the ride by Joseph there and well done TopClass. Nice little drift and all.

Trip looked on the sharp side and all for Deauville. The extra furlong or two next year looks set to play to his strengths more.

Thanks for the messages guys. Annoying that it turned into a six runner affair and typical that the two I feared beat us into third. The runner up is a winner off 85 and the analysis of the races the second has run in points to him being similarly rated so it is quite possible that we have run to 82/83 today. We knew before the off that we would have to take the bull by the horns and make the running or he would have pulled his head off in a small field. I think Rab gave him a fair ride but maybe should have kicked him in the belly turning for home.
He said that he lugged into the rails and thought it was unfortunate they didn't come by closer as he may have responded. Rab is certain that 9f at Newmarket would be his trip so that is probably the target in September. It is tempting to give him another spin on the AW as his mark is lower there and he is qualified for a £60k race at the start of Sept.
His legs are fine Ron and the first sign that his form is tailing off will see him take a break. Regardless he will have the winter off and I think he will be better again next year after a break.
He really is a joy to be involved with and we are so lucky to have picked up such a quality animal for peanuts!

    Cheers pal <ok>

Joseph had to be pretty strong with him from some way out so as you say, he will be interesting at middle distance. Good ride indeed.

Interesting colours too owners are Fitri Hay, John Magnier and Michael Tabor. Will we see more good Ballydoyle flat horses in the Fitri Hay colours?

They have been in league with Coolmore for a while Toppy..Fame and Glory for example.

That colt must be decent..the second ceratinly is.

Re Bolger..as I have said be before,he puts puts AO'B to shame re hype.

Everything he owns and breeds is for sale..thats his mantra...nothing wrong with that and a more astute judge than Ferguson..how does that guy still have a job re Godolphin?.still, the blind leads the blind..

    Dawn Approach anyone?

Although Sheikh Mo also said he was the best miler in the world after the SJP...wasn't even the best miler in South England...decent colt thought...just that.

Hard luck Stick and Don. Always difficult when you have to do your own donkey work. There'll be more fun to be had as he's such an honest trier.

Indelible Ink is no star and I should think he'll be for sale this Autumn. As a half-brother to Liber Nauticus he's kept the mare's end up. More interesting is his 2yo sister Thetis who is entered for the Rockfel. Should be out soon.

Admirable run from Squire. At the end of the day he ran in a race that wouldn't favour him against an unexposed runner and one that would enjoy small fields. He set it up for the first two but would a change of tactics ended up in a different result? Probably not.
