The way it is , is the ufc is the equivalent of the Champions league. You have mma, k1, etc. And the best guys from them make the step up to ufc.

McGregor was a 2 time mma world champion and gave up the belts to go after his dream of being the ultimate as in ultimate fighting championship champion. So there will always be new guys coming through from the other factions of no holds barred combat.

I guess you can compare it to WWE in that respect.
In Pro-Wrestling (ie fake ass, soap opera wrestling), the WWE is where you want to be, its the top franchise of that particular "sport".
UFC is its equivalent in the field of MMA.

The Irish rugby team are number 3 in the world , behind the All blacks and Australia. The Irish team is just that no Republic or North just an all island team but I still hear beeb commentators refer to Tommy Bowe as the Northern Irishman. There's no such thing in Rugby terms. But still there's that need to try claim something lol. Can't remember if it was this year or last year's 6 nations trophy presentation but the commentary went along the lines of Ireland's Paul O'Connell raises the trophy and next in in line are Northern Ireland's Rory Best and Tommy Bowe

    WTF .

This is probably a controversial view, but I'm going to put it anyway.
First off, the Beeb is obviously wrong technically to lump the two nations together. However, having been born and raised in Liverpool, of Irish descent (though going back a few generations), and having a large proportion of Irish people around me in family, school and work- I find it hard to think of Ireland as a foreign country. There has been so much intermingling over the centuries that I do tend to think of us as cousins rather than distinctly separate.
This doesn't excuse the Beeb's need to grab any glory it can find, of course- but probably reflects the general ignorance of its sports journalists.

    Really? You sure about that?

Anyway, McGregor is from Dublin, which as we all know is in England.

I liked the world cup last year. Germany was the first team from the UK and Germany to win this century.

The women's world cup where the US became the most recent winner from the UK and US was good too.
