Ashley does invest his own money for transfers because the club has been operating at a loss even with transfer income. The turnover of the club has not been able to meet the basic operating expenses and he has been investing his own money every season to keep the club afloat.

Staff bonus and lee westwood sponsorship deals are his own business or those of the Board of Directors of Sports Direct and have no relation to the financial dealings of NUFC.

The club would probably not be in existence now if it were not for his financial backing. I am finding it increasingly surprising how many Toon fans continue to stick their heads in the sand rather than acknowledge this!

yeah but its all attention seeking anyway. if they merely leave a comment they wont have their doom mongering name in lights at the top of the thread. im sure theyd cut themselves for attention but showing digital blood on the forum is frowned upon in these parts.

all is good in the hood. we're gunna win the champions league this year, and the league. We will be doing so well in the PL come christmas they'll give us a golden ticket into the final stages. you seen it here first ;)

I should get rep for never being negative, for persevering with this board even though I'm in a minority and Smarties are one of my favourites.........

The bottom line is that, no matter what Ashley does, he knows 50,000 will roll up for the first home game against Arsenal. Until the club gets sold, nothing will change fundamentally. Fat Boy and the Casino Manager will continue to mock the fans and get Pardew to make it sound all quite reasonable.

I think there is a balance to be struck here. You don't have to be pro ashley or anti ashley for me. I like to try and be objective about the club. I never like it when people say he has bankrolled the club or saved it from extinction. Surely that is exactly the role he took on when decided to buy it. (extinction is just balls for me and too far fetched as if not him then someone else applies) A guy who knows about business does not buy it to make money. It was a plaything. He'll have been confident he could create a winning team and make money. Then football finance reality hit. Buying the club and bankrolling it is not something he should be continually thanked for. Once he buys it he takes on that burden, is thanked and then judged against the background vision he sold when obtaining it. We'd all agree he's made a horrific go of it so far.

I believe he now wants out but to do that in the way he wants to he'll have to do ok by the club. Funnily enough it's this change in his business plan which has brought about positives for the first time in his tenure. If he plays too high a risk strategy he knows the cost. It may not always be a massively progressive strategy but surely he if we get healthier financially with better infrastructure it's not all bad. I'd love us to be more progressive like other clubs but it ain't happening so there is no point in negativity or whining. He'll want us in the best possible shape to sell us. Nobody is going to be buying it blind without due diligence! You might say he has been lucky to stumble upon the current move in the right direction financially, but there have been shrewd decisions too to be fair.

I dislike him immensely just to be clear.

Transfer wise I think we've done ok (but for those injury concerns) and if we sign a left back assuming Jose go's and a first choice striker I think that's decent work. If we didn't get either signing and sold enrique of course I'd be worried but there is a long way to go. I do expect it to maybe be a left back in, left back out but you never know. With luck on the injury front I think we'd be ok. It's not ideal but being negative isn't gonna help. You get to a point where you just have to get on with it and support the 11 on the pitch. I don't know why the big hoo hah about N'Zogbia. He wants 60k. He's not the guy to break your wage structure for. Don't get me wrong, he's a fine player but with it not being our top priority, I'm at a loss to understand why people are so bothered.

I know the 35m plus whatever our budget was gonna be has disappeared but who honestly thought differently. It's a long season too and he is playing a tight strategy. If we were in trouble with injuries and performance in Jan they'd buy. If we're not he might not buy. When you step back and looked at it, it's not the idealistic view you'd want for your club but it's not the worst or life threatening.
