We all know the effect of heat, the effect of jet lag (for the Sacramento game anyway) the effect of having three months off, then training twice a day and playing against a mid-season team, etc. That's pretty obvious. But all I've learned from this thread is that in three weeks time, we'll be doing the same sh*tty things faster. Nothing else. I welcome the new players. I just wish we could get about fifteen more. Because Advocaat was justified in saying what he apparently did in the dressing room. The football I saw this morning wasn't good enough - at any speed.

I think wholesale changes is as dodgy as not strengthening at all. Time is required. Gradual year by year improvement is the only way and tv money is giving us the chance to do that. If a fan doesn't have the patience that's they'll drive themselves insane but that's their bag. I'm happy with the transfer window so far, I think the players will improve us when competitive matches come and I expect further improvement in the rest of the summer window and summer windows beyond.

    I'm happy with the progress.

Yes, "fifteen more" was said rather tongue in cheek. We haven't the necessary money for that, so it's obviously not going to happen. Mind you, we've been listening to 'gradual year by year improvement' since 1957 and are still waiting. So if it was possible, I would probably take that chance now. I agree with your gradual improvement idea, but would say it works better if you have a decent coherent base to start building on. And I don't think we have. Not that it matters - I think we can agree that it isn't going to happen no matter what we think.

We haven't had the money involved since 1957, that's the big thing, perfect chance to clear the debts and build the best squad in any of our lifetimes, but the excuses are running out. If we're not playing good football in the next three seasons I'll lose all hope. That's all I want personally, to be entertained. It's far too competitive to expect to win anything.
