No not a Gut Ritchie remake of this........ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114660/ but my latest jaunt, I'm off the land of Yorkshire this weekend, never been that way before has anyone visited? Is there any food or drink that I should try? Any places I should visit. Off to York Races while I'm there Tom Jones is stalking me again and will be playing there. Specifically it's Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
Personally I really like Flamborough Head, went on there on holiday for several years with mates. That said, there's nowt to do there and it's miles from Thirsk, so not sure I'd recommend you go there. If you go to Bridlington, everywhere does a carvery. Even the clubs. Last time I went there, we went to a rock club where we the only people in there for several hours. Not sure if that's your thing.
Travelled to Leeds when my son was attending University there. I have heard about their pudding for many years, but tasted it right there.
To be fair Dribs, it's not difficult to get Yorkshire pudding in London. Or do you mean the Leeds Universiy yorkshire pudding?
Yes mate. I know the area very well. I'm taking my eldest up there next month for a couple of nights. York's great. There's a top pub called Ye Olde Starre Inn. There's also a superb burger joint called Plunkets. You can get plenty of other food there as well. I'm staying at the Blacksmith's Arms In Lastingham near Kirby Moorside. I don't know how long you're staying, but that's worth a visit. Fantastic food and great range of beers. And if you fancy a stroll, it's a two minute walk to get onto the Moors
Thirsk is 21 miles from Lastingham and you've also got Helmsley, a lovely market town, on the way. If you've got the kids, the James Herriott museum in Thirsk is actually very good.
I know that area very well mate, and have got family there. If you want a good meal in a wonderful setting go and have a meal at the Carpenters Arms at Felixkirk, which is a little village just a couple of miles outside Thirsk, it'll cost you about £8 in a cab, but when you get there grab a drink and sit out the back, as the views are to die for, lovely restaurant as well. Highly recommended.
