Stevie was obsessive, Maxi just wanted to play & we had to stop Suarez training

But I rather have players like Yossi, Kuyt and Maxi than Lallana, Downing and Borini.

The first 3 players may not be glamorous but they played with real intelligence and most importantly, possessed substance. They did things.

Now for me, they are the ideal squad players for me - players who aren't the best to be starting most weeks but when you do put them in, they fit the system and structure, they understand their roles and they execute.

They are players who wanted the ball and took on responsibility.

Yep, Dalglish alienated both Kuyt and Maxi - both had plenty to offer IMO.

It's funny because I didn't rate these two that highly when they were here but I now appreciate their ability since - probably because diluted the quality of the team.

    Rose-tinted glasses?

You could also spin that comment around and ask how you'll view several of our current players once they've left.

Not especially. I was just as much implying that you were overrating players from yesteryear than underrating players from now.

Not overrating them - they all contributed in a strong, winning team that was fighting on all fronts. They were underrated.

Put them in our team today, they would provide intelligence, movement and leadership.

Maxi was there from 2010-2012, not exactly our glory years. While I think they would fit in now, I don't think they would really improve us.

Funny this guy says Maxi didn't like running when his song was - Maxi, Maxi Rodriguez runs down the line for me <laugh>

  9. True ability > Work rate = no thanks

Work rate > True ability = prefer not

Work rate and true ability = yes please!

No true ability or work rate = Mario Balotelli!
