I've generally done my pre-match drinking in Putney, as my train arrives there. But since I now work in Hammersmith, I'm learning about places there. So my question is: Where is everyone's traditional/favourite place to drink pre-matches? Is it different for weekends vs mid-week?
The Badge and Coat just of Putney High Street is always my first choice, I have taken Leeds fans and Charlton fans there recently and they all commented what nice pub it is.
Either of the 'spoons for me. Certainly not the Toy Shop or whatever its called halfway down Putney HS where it's £5+ a pint. Best place depends on whether you want to soak up the atmosphere or find a seat. Star and Garter is usually quiet, and it has a hermetically sealed cheese room! Crab tree good spot for some Taraabt spotting
I was in the Crabtree on Friday, enjoying some Johnny Haynes Bitter. I'm a little surprised there aren't more Fulham-themed beers in the area - you'd think they'd sell well on matchdays!
Surly, that deserves a thread of it's own my friend. Fulham themed beers, over to you to start it off. I don't want to steal your thunder!
I can't believe what was the Yahoo Bar has sat empty for the past few years. How can they not make a bar in that location, with the footfall during the season, work is beyond me. When it was the Yahoo Bar they went through a period where they couldn't take cards.. but didn't tell people until they went to pay. Was a disaster to watch! There must be a story to that place! For those that don't know it - it's the one right on Putney Bridge opposite the church.
Years ago drank in The Chancellors near the River at Hammersmith and then walked to the ground to be able to turn up at the turnstiles 3 mins before KO and still get in. But now travel into West Brompton area and go to The Lilly Langtry, the advantage is you can don't have to fight your way to the bar, can get a seat easily, watch the football, and then catch a 74 or 420 to sometimes get in another pint in the ground. Downside is it's a Chelsea pub, but never crowded on a Fulham match day.
I'm a strict Bricklayers Arms drinker - before and after. Nice pub with a good mix of away supporters. Used to laugh, as a real ale pub they often ran out of lager and away fans had to drink the bitter or real cider - the expression they came out with when not used to it - particularly Everton and Man Utd fans - priceless !
