Dury is a right wing back and pacey, but if Rosler wants a left winger it means he has enough depth on the right, and Cellino may be right in not wanting to have 3 and 4 players in each position, when we only require 2 quality players with one of the kids as back up.

Lets try and look forward to the next 3 or 4 games and see how we do against decent opposition. By now we should be seeing some gelling of the squad and a rough idea about formations. lets hope we get rid of all the excess and make a few quid too. Feel sorry for Dury but is another right back required

    Morning All,

Drury is LB/LWB/LM. You're confusing him with the other Manc lad we were supposed to be tracking, Elland. He looked bloody good at York. I mentioned in one of my comments that it was like having another Byram on the left. We really shouldn't let him go IMO.

Walters is a left winger and hasn't been played there yet. Are you guys sure we're looking for a winger? I'm not convinced.

Mike, Wootton is here to stay, unless we get silly money - which we won't. He's cover, and this has been underlined by Killock not travelling to Austria (probably going out on loan with Dawson).

Having seen what Byram ha to offer so far this season, I would not sell him for £8m. Look at our squad and tell me who would be a decent replacement. You'll struggle!

As for LB, Berardi did an excellent job there last season, so good cover for Taylor. Cooper did ok when covering there too, so none of this square peg nonsense - he did the biz! Didn't look like a Wootton-type stopgap.

Going by WJ comments I think Cellino has probably blocked the move as he wants to dictate the formation with players that are available. Rosler is going to be forced into 4-3-3 with no real wide players.

We are into the serious part of pre-season now, less trying out formations and combinations, more about building an understanding, what I don't understand is why allow him to trial if their is no real intention to allow him to sign

Why are you so convinced that Cellino wants to dictate the formation? Why persist with this conspiracy theory when there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to suggest it?

Rosler certainly seems to be is own man, and chooses his own players. He has 2 wingers available to him & has clearly decided that he doesn't want to play wingers. He's persisted with Byram as a RM, and Erwin as a LM so far.

And btw, Drury would have slipped through this net if indeed you were right, as he's not a winger.

Last season there was more than enough evidence Cellino dictated formation when he could, so much evidence you would need to be blind to miss it.

Given Cellinios previous......... and the circumstantial evidence that points towards it.... What evidence do you have that Cellino isn't dictating formation and tactics again. More evidence that points to Cellinos input are our shambolic displays so far in pre season.

BTW if thats two fish caught on one hook then well cast sir...

Tempted to leave it at that, but no, I'll let you off the hook.

There is absolutely no doubt that Cellino orchestrated the season to come last year, mainly due to his mistaken understanding of what was required, and the 16 players he signed up. There is no argument there, not even from Cellino. As the season progressed, he learned, and admitted, that he got it wrong. Redders was given a free hand to fcuk up - and unceremoniously did! Fair comment?

This season, Rosler has been in with the bricks, and has clearly announced what type of football he wants to play. Absolutely no mention of a diamond, and players have been bought in to fit the style of play that HE has dictated.

As for Drury, I honestly believe it a budgetary decision not to sign him, which makes common sense. Who knows, if we manage to offload the remaining deadwood, we might sign him yet!

By why make a conspiracy theory out of nothing? You two take every opportunity to twist every single thing into an anti-Cellino argument. Tought titty, boys. He's here for the long haul by the looks! :D

And don't cast up pre-season performances - only a fool would expect fluent, flowing football in such a match.

We should revisit this after you get back from your holidays (I suspect even you and Boggers might be seeing things differently by then)..... It is entirely possible thatRostler will be gone and redfearn or Donut will be back in charge by then!

BTW I agree we are stuck with the maniac until the FL kick him out.

Which holiday? The Tbilisi trip, the Riga trip, or the cruise form Barcelona to Singpore in Oct/Nov?

    (Couldn't resist! :D)

    I didn't promise, you know!

I promised Mike that he could have my s/t for the Burnley game as my eldest is getting married on the 8th August. September trips don't affect any home games. I've also promised my s/t to Mike for the Brighton game on October 17th.

It just so happens that I recently extended my cruise into November, so you can have my S/T for the Blackburn game on October 31st, and the Cardiff game on November 3rd. That'll give you plenty to moan about! :D

I'll leave the s/t handover for you guys to sort out. Wish I could be there to listen in on the conversation! :D

?????? So you ask what conspiracy theory and the very next post you admit to Cellino having a say in formation and tactics in the only season we have played under him so far...

I wondered why he was running around liking your posts ;) <ok>

No conspiracy theory last season - Cellino was quite out in the open about his intentions, and the mistakes he made.

True, we haven't played any meaningful games this season yet, so why would you assume that he's going to be interfering when he's already publicly stated that he made mistakes last season? Do you really, really think that he's signing players to suit his own formation/tactics agenda, or is it just Glory on his own?
