Would a combination of both - we have a very good scouting network that would have noticed him and Raneiri has managed him before as well. Seems like a very energetic player - is rather short but really tenacious.
Both players are very similar - both are tenacious DMs and are similar height and age but Mendy has played for France at youth level - maybe they see more in him? Either or they both play in a position that needs recruitment.

We want Nathan Ake and Oriol Romeu from Chelsea apparently. I think John Terry is the only player on there books who Ranieri knows from his time but he still probably has contacts behind the scenes We have also been linked with Islam Slimani again, from the sounds of things Ranieri doesnt have complete control on new signings as were still meant to be going after all of NP's targets
IF I ain´t mistaken he is a very good player. Not good enough for CFC & their team of all stars but more than good enough for us. Does that sound abit wrong ? I hope you know what I mean ? He´s at the age where he needs to find his level, he says he wants regular football so a team on the up with a nice stadium, good squad & cash should suit him fine. I think the deal could be a season long loan & then an option to buy. Sounds like a win win situ to me.
Romeu would be a good replacement for Matty - similar style from what I remember. Focuses more on his defensive attributes than creative. He has stated that he will consider his situation in a years time as he wants to settle in a club that wlll give him regular football. Would compliment Cambiasso if he decides to stay here.

Is the type of player that we went after in the NP days - Drinkwater, James and De Laet were in the same situation at Man Utd.
I hope it doesnt turn out like another Lukaku situation. Plays immense next year, gets his big fat contract and then goes downhill the season after.
A player who we have been linked with a lot over the years in Robbie Brady has told Hull he wants to leave and sign for Norwich With NP now left I can't see Ranieri giving any of their players much thought
