I never miss a Grand Prix, and such a shame for his family and the sport so hard to take in what happened here. First death in F1 since the great Senna http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/33578770
Joel, I wouldn't watch a car race literally if you paid me. But it's never nice to see someone who has given you pleasure and great memories die. Since Jackie Milburn (1989) through the revered Shackleton (1999) it's coming thicker and faster for me all the time now : Nat Lofthouse (2011) Lawrie Reilly (2013) Tom Finney (2014) and so on. I don't know what's worse, a young star losing his life too early or an old man who has given you pleasure hundreds of times in your memories, but neither option is good. My heart felt sympathies to Bianchi's family, and to all the people who, like yourself, enjoyed his endeavours.
I have worked for the last 12 months for FIA Formula E. We all talked about Bianchi recently, he was a very talented driver and certain to be a star in the future. The news I was told was this was likely but we all hoped somehow he would have a miracle recovery. It was a freak accident and he will be missed massively by everyone involved in motorsport. RIP
I work as a consultant for them on the live entertainment side of the business, my role falls into marketing and operations. I have worked at every race this season. I have got to know some of the drivers and teams very well, most have worked in F1 so this is a something that has affected everyone in the sport.
I basicly got lucky, someone who knew me recommended me because I have worked in motorsport in the past and my current background is the entertainments industry. They also wanted someone on a free lance basis which suited me perfectly. Check out FIA Formula E. Its a lot more exciting than F1 currently is. Check this out.... last corner of the first race. Leading 2 drivers.
I don't play in the band anymore, we called it a day about 2 years ago. Got a lot going on at the moment because my dad died very unexpectedly 8 weeks ago today, family is coming first and I am looking after my mum. Thanks for your comments Com, I am struggling a bit at the moment so its nice to hear positive things.
Sorry to hear that mate i really am. You look after yourself and your mum. Also sounds like you are really busy. Which isnt a bad thing. Shame about the band. I liked them. Best wishes mate.
So what is it you do? Sorry for the inquisition ha. Heard a lot about formula e, and some big names involved in the sport. Never watched it tho, but may after watching that
The races are all street circuits so we built everything from the ground up. I spec most of the A/V on site which includes a large PA system all round the track for commentry and music. A stage in the entertainments village, stage and A/V in emotion club, media centre race suits, and the list goes on.... Formula E have a DJ called the Formula EJ. The EJ plays "exciting" dance music during the race and does sets in the "E village" during and after the race. The EJ looks a little like a cross between the stig and daft punk. His identity is a secret. I work very closely with him on the provision of music. Its a very complicated set-up with over 70 video screens on-site, over 150 speakers and 7 or so giant video walls. They are spread over large distances which means we have to run fiber or use microwave technology. The races are broadcast live all over the world, so I also liaise with the TV production company. Most of the provision of equipment is provided by companies local to the race, so I liaise with these companies to try and get consistency across the races. I also assist with technical expertise. So I go to all the races and do confrence calls and emails before hand with the local supplies, race promoter and event manager. I am one of the few peoole that gets an access all areas pass I also often get involved in the after race parties and events giving advice to the event manager. I have met some very interesting people. The CEO of the company Alejandro Agag owned QPR with Ecclestone, Mittal and Briatore. A few of the FE team have worked high up in football and know Ellis Short. I hope Short comes to a race so I can meet him. I hope this explains what I do,
There have been some quite wild ones. Djing on the top of a hotel in Malaysia next to the twin towers was probably the highlight. Oh did I mention they put a pool where the dance floor was supposed to be. Here are a couple of pictures. It got very messy as the night went on and everyone ended up in the pool. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I might well be have he most jealous but on 606 right now ha. Don't suppose they need a guy with an insurance background do they
Not sure mate, if it comes up, I will ask. Don't be too jealous, it all sounds great but to be fair, I travel economy on long haul flights and work for 18 hours a day a lot of the time without a break, I am away from my family and my wife for long periods. It can also be very frustrating seeing people waste money or rip other people off (which happens a lot in motorsport). It can be very stressful too especially when your in South America, your spanish is not very good, no one speaks English and you have a major issue that everyone is relying on you to solve. Everything is also very last minute, Sometimes I don't know when I am going, if I am going, or how long I am going for until a few days before I fly. Don't get me wrong I know I am really lucky to have this opportunity and I am very grateful for it, but its not all parties and having a great time..... far from it. If you ever want to come to a race or to any of the testing at Donnington park let me know, I will see what I can sort out.
Oh that's class mate, defo will do. The organisation you seem to put in obviously makes things tick. Beats my office 9-5 job hands down. Do u also get F1 perks?
