I can't argue with that, but a lot closer bunching than last year with maybe 6-9 points separating the top three.

Indeed, if we win the league again, I cannot see it being by as big a margin, since Arse and United have both improved.
Hopefully we will make at least one more signing though :p

Hopefully you wont win it again, if only for the leagues sake.

I am really disappointed that we haven't bought a really big name so that the team can be built around him.

The policy of buying lots of value players with the Sterling windfall does not work. It hasn't worked with Torres, hasn't with Suarez and I can't see it working now.

You buy lost a mid priced players you get lots of mid priced average players.

If we had a star like the old Gerrard or a Suarez we could be fighting for the title never mind top 4. This has been such a disappointing summer, with low expectations and seeing our rivals reinforcing massively.

    So much truth in this.

Apart from the few realists like you this forum has effectively become a support group for people trying to convince each other that Liverpool are moving in the right direction.

With the Torres money we bought Suarez & Carroll & with the Sterling money we're looking at buying Benteke. I've no idea where this fantasy situation in your post occurred where we bought "lots" of players with the money from these transfers but I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the real world.

It only happened with the Suarez money and that was probably down to the fact we needed to improve our squad depth, due to our increase in fixtures with Europe, at the same time as replacing Suarez.

So one of his 3 examples was technically incorrect, since 2 isnt lots I guess.
But still the most expensive of those 2, Andy Carroll, wasn't a big name and was a ridiculous buy, and turned out to be dog ****.
Suarez wasn't exactly a big name either. Most knew him as the **** who bit the guy at Ajax and handballed at the world cup and celebrated the missed penalty.
So yeah, you can buy mediocre pish and hope that one of them becomes world class I guess, like Suarez did......how often does that happen? A much better tactic <ok>

Tbf you could have just posted ot on RAWK and got a similar response. It's very likely that won't be the starting 11 anyway. I'd prefer Blind at LB for starters.

But why I really dont like the side you've put out is the lack of width. We're in all 4 competitions, with plenty of games to go round to rotate the midfield instead of trying to shoehorn them all into every game as in that side you've posted. Personally I'd prefer Herrera to play next to Scheiderlin against 80% of the prem sides. That allows us to play with proper wingers. In the big prem and CL is where we can set up more defensively but even then I still dont expect all 4 of them to start.

No, 2 of his examples are incorrect. Because he's implying we spent loads on an assortment of cheaper players with the Torres & Sterling money when it blatantly isn't true and didn't happen.

Its easy to say in hindsight that Suarez was 'value' at £22m but at the time that amount of money for an Eredivise striker was a risk, so was £35m on Carroll.

Was he talking just about money spent though? More about the stature of the signing is what Carl is talking about. Carroll and Benteke dont fit that bill. Torres definitely did.

We bought all these players before Sterling left.

If you're going to box every player we sign this summer into the 'Sterling transfer money' category then yes, obviously we're going to sign a number of players. Because most teams sign lots of players in the summer window.

The **** difference does that make.
Spurs bought most of their dogshit before Bale left.

Liverpool have known Sterling was on his way out for weeks, so I am sure he was not factored in this seasons plans.
Regardless, it still stands that last summer you lost a huge player and your top goal scorer and bought lots of mediocre players.
This summer you have lost a huge name (Gerrard), your potential future prodigy (Sterling) who are your TWO top goal scorers, and bought lots of mediocre players....again.

Ings, Benteke, Milner, Firmino, Bogdan, Clyne and Gomez?

Sounds very similar to last seasons line up of Balotelli, Lambert, Lallana, Lovren, Markovic, Moreno and Can.

Not saying these players are all **** (I think Can, Milner and Firmino are pretty good players), its just wholesale changes of 6 maybe 7 out of 10 rated players, with a similar bunch of 6 maybe 7 out of 10 rated players

When we signed Torres we had just been in a CL final. When we signed Carroll we had sold Mascherano & Torres and were 7th in the league. And now we've just finished 6th and lost Gerrard, Suarez & Sterling in the last year.

I don't think we aren't signing big names out of choice, personally.

Im surprised you guys haven't brought a CF yet.

With costas dodgy hammys, l it takes is another pull and he's out for 3 months and you could be us from last year. Lots of midfielders having to do a job up top.

    Well we got Falcao <laugh>

Seriously though, depends on Remy I think.
If he stays, I think Jose will be happy with Costa, Remy and Falcao.
If we lose Remy then we deffo need a new CF.

You also have goals from other positions, Costa did not get the golden boot and did not win you the league on his own, there are goals In the whole team.

That we wasted money & signed poor players last season is a totally different argument and one that was already known from October or November last year. Its not a new argument, so I've no idea why you are trying to steer this particular argument into that one, they aren't related.

From what I've gathered from newspaper reports and fan rumours we will be signing Benteke & a winger with the Sterling money. The signings before him are not in anyway related to the Sterling deal.

yup, Hazard, Willian and Oscar will chip in with a fair few I bet.
Even Ivan scores every now and then.

With Liverpool, if they can keep Sturridge and Coutinho fit, I think they have an outside chance of top 4, especially if Firmino and Milner gel with the team aswell and grab some goals.

So without the Sterling money you would have been happy with what you bought previously?
