You've worn me thin. You obviously know everything about anything so I'm actually quite bemused that you're not the QPR manager? Any how, I've nothing else to say, but if Matt Phillips gets sold for less than £10mil I will be having a party.
WBA have turned their attention to Antonio from Forest, frustrated that they can't get Phillips on the cheap. Jolly D.
To be fair to the Albion, if we were in the Prem and had to pay £25m for two players of a relegated side, I'd balk at that price also. Pity Redknapp didn't think that when he splashed out £8m on Caulker
Sorry Swords, Redknapp had nothing to do with signing Caulker (or anyone else for that matter). This was all the fault of Beard, who imposed evry signing on him! As I have said previously, if Phillips had been part of a relegated side from the German top division (can't spell it correctly!), they would be lucky to get £3 million for him. Why then, do we value him at £10 million? EVERY player is only worth what another club is prepared to pay for them!
Do you not think the selling club is actually the decision maker in what a player is worth? If Les and Ramsey decide that Phillips is worth £10m because that price includes disruption to the team, a player who is settled and would contribute is leaving and the team is disturbed as they seek a replacement and then they gamble on the time it takes to settle (if they settle at all). Therefore If a buying club is only willing to pay £7m but the selling club wants £10m then ultimately that player is worth £10m or you don’t get him. Cant see any other logic other than seller sets the price. If you set the price too high for a buyer you might fail to sell but then the question is are you happy that you didn’t sell because that price wasn’t met. If the answer is yes, then that player is worth £10m to the seller
So if you value your house at £500k, but you only get offers of £450k, your house is worth £500k, even though you can't sell it for what you think its worth and mortgage lenders don't value it at that?Value is what the seller perception, buyer perception and market conditions lead you to.If you bought your house for £500k you may not be able to afford to sell it for less, that doesn't make it worth that. As a stockbroker (do the best of my recollection) I would have thought you knew very well that the seller does not set the price in isolation. Phillips is not worth £10m.
House analogy would instead need to be considered from the point of view that it wasn't up for sale. If someone decided to buy my flat and offered market price i'd tell them to do one because it's not up for sale. To entice me to sell the price would have to be increased to a level where I was willing to sell. If I was at a stage where I wanted to move house and put it up for sale then I would accept the market price. Oscar Wilde's description of certain men seems to fit a few on here perfectly; "A man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing"

It It don't work like that my favourite cross dresser x these players don't go out and do their own thing Phillips has something that TP wants for his team for next season regardless of the club he is at sure they know that premiership players command large wages and have a crazy value QPR went down because they were a crap team caused by Redknapp just buying players he hoped would forge a team He had no idea and is the worst manager I can think of CR took us down with someone else's idea of a football team and did a good job as he only had a few options of play style Phillips is good enough to play in a top six team IMO and I bet he has been pondered but there is a bigger pool of foreign talent on tap and money is no object of course so Phillips will never make it into a top six team ... Think Scott Sinclair and that should help you I feel proud that QPR are sticking to their guns on our talent because we have had the best squads in our history but the worse teams
Matt Phillips blasted by QPR fans over Twitter picture of £100,000 Porsche - three days before his team were relegated Matt Phillips posed with his Porsche Panamera outside his home Three days later, Queens Park Rangers were beaten 6-0 by Manchester City The loss at the Etihad meant QPR were relegated from the Premier League Fans slammed the footballer on social media, criticising his 'poor timing' please log in to view this image So where is Matty driving his Porsche to? West Brom or is he driving to Birmingham as Aston Villa are now sniffing around?
I agree with you to a certain point, but that can only apply if the seller states & means "it's X amount or no sale." If you want to sell you must take into account the buyer's valuation. I don't belive that we would make such a stipulation on any sale. Like any other transaction, the price has to be agreeable to both parties. You must also take into account how a player would perform for you if you stopped his wanted transfer. In the case of Phillips (not stating that he wouldn't perform if he stays), a transfer would probably keep him in The Premier, increase his salary AND provide him with a nice little signing on bonus. If he's really lucky, the selling club would also pay him a bonus for the profit made on his trade & a reward for "loyalty"!
Matt Phillips focused on a good pre-season at QPR despite West Brom interest Che Thomas @Temlekin Published now please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Che Thomas @Temlekin "> View image | gettyimages.com Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips has been discussing his pre-season in light of the rumours linking him with a switch to West Brom, telling the Hoops website that he is focused on giving his all for the club until he hears something different. Tony Pulis had this week revealed his frustration at QPR's asking price as he seeks to do a deal for the 24-year-old, according to the Birmingham Mail, but Phillips is purely interested in getting a good pre season under his belt to continue the superb form he was displaying over spring. “I’m a QPR player and as you can see from the way I finished last season and the work I’ve done since, I am giving 100 per-cent," he told the QPR site. “I’ll give everything until I’m told otherwise. “I’m fully focused on getting through this pre-season and giving everything for the club. Betting suspended on Newcastle United finally signing 26-year-old goal machine[/a] That record actually left the winger with the highest number of assists in the entire division from the moment Ramsey took charge at Loftus Road, two clear of his next nearest rival, someone he could well be lining up alongside next season, West Brom's Chris Brunt. It is no surprise that with that kind of form, the Baggies are so keen on him, but equally, it illustrates just why the R's are eager to keep hold of him, or collect a significant fee if they were to sell.
When he does go (and he will - soon) he wants to be up to speed and ready to play. If he doesn't go (which is very unlikely IMO) then he will just carry on and won't have upset anyone at QPR by being a d!ck and sitting out training/friendlies whilst waiting to be whisked back up the the Premier league. That is the right attitude to take, just like Charlie.
Spot on. I would really like to keep him but we do have some decent midfield talent now (including Chery), though I'm not sure if any of them would be as good out wide as Phillips. In comparison to Charlie, he has longer remaining on his contract and he would generate less cash if we did sell him so, arguably, keeping him might be affordable.
OMG. Things must be really quiet out there if we're having debates about the mechanics of who sets the price in a sale and how that corresponds to value. The important thing is we still we have not sold any of them.
