really!! it seems pointless to me playing that sort of opener, i understand that they need the game time to get them up to fitness, but surely these so called Pro footballers should stay fit?? The worry is playing these type pub teams.. injuries? We don't have the players to replace any first teasers.. I understand that rem teams go to asia ext but what about some Championship sides or newly promoted prem sides? Thought we may have had a scotish side? or a scotish pub side?? ross county
It's too late for any of that Joe. They cocked up and this is about as good as it gets. This isn't a bunch of kids with no pedigree though so probably as good a side as they could get under the circumstances. The rest of the games have Torquay as the stiffest opposition. Some of the teams might think they have something to prove and want to turn Argyle over at any cost so the injury thing is very real. You are right we don't have enough players to cover injuries so it is a bit like skating on thin ice I guess. The Premiership clubs all go on exotic trips to the far flung reaches of the Universe these days. Not good enough to stay here and advertise their wares. They need the shirt sales cos they are not very well off.
Who we play in pre- season friendlies is not a huge concern anyway but at 20-1 to win league is great odds. We have never been hot favourites anyway even in our last 2 promotions....so have a little flutter indeed.
It's a bit of concern if you want to charge the sort of price Argyle wants to for their one and only home friendly bedoboy. Even if it's a half decent youth team it is only a youth team and nothing more. If you want to get people interested in attending for the rest of the season you generally have to give them something to get interested in. I would only agree that the results aren't everything. I would never gamble on football let alone Argyle. I used to have a couple of bob on things once upon a time but could never get anywhere near it. If I gave Kiddeminster Harriers to lose against Chelsea then you could guarantee and upset. I even tried the double bluff with Argyle and that never worked either. I find it safer and cheaper to just cross everything.
Jon Back will be the new PAFC Football Secretary....taking over from Jason Turner in September.......I wonder who else was on the final selection list......
No comment, but I am glad it has gone to another fan, I am less disappointed than I was and am sure he will do a good job.
We could have given you a character reference.........that would have got you thrown out on your ear...........
Anthony O'Connor has finally signed a two year deal with Burton Albion......a pity he was an important player for PAFC.
just as well they didn't ask for references!. Seems like the appointee was as well/better known to the club as me. Clearly he has all the appropriate credentials for the post. To be honest as much as I would have loved to have been the chosen one, I guess that 6 days a week would have worn through after a while-after all I am supposed to be semi-retiring. though have just applied for a couple of 'proper' jobs.
You would never survive a 6 day week after all this time lyndhurst. You definately don't want to go down that route. Stick to the 3.5 you know. Get a job with B & Q like all the other oldies.....
ha ha Joe, Yes it was/is a proper job. Just that Sensible commented that If I had been successful in getting the Argyle secretary job i would never have had a 'proper job' in my entire life. The 'proper jobs' I have applied for are ones that I would do to earn money, but not necessary things that I really want to do given the choice.
The RN is part time Joe and they only ever practice stuff but never do anything for real. Last proper engagement was 1588 and even that was held up for a sports afternoon.
Our military is part-time these days because of government cuts, yet Cameron is talking big about Isil....the man has no idea......at least the Navy should be ok......unless they could practise some gunnery from the Gulf.
Right back on topic then. I see that Rueben is reported to be on track and "might" be ready to wind up and let lose for the start of the season. That's a bit of good news on a slow news day. I wonder if he would get a game from the outset if fit having not played any of the preseason games. It might be tempting for Adams to go with his preseason partnership. I think that Reid is the sort of player who thrives on confidence and needs to play to build it up. It will be a pity after 2 very acceptable seasons if he wasn't firing on all cylanders from the start. We may not get the Reid back we want. I do blame Sheridan for this though as he should have dropped him last season and given him whatever treatment he needed then to have him ready for preseason now. He didn't and prefered to flog him to death instead.
