I have actualy written my reply like 3 times now trying to reply with qoutes lol is not working to well for me am new to football forums. @ The king i agree we dont have many superstars in our midfield but i disagree with calling them standard players that they certaintly are not. I'm not saying your midfield is standard either i would happily take Meireles from you. I just dont think signing downing is much of an improvement at the cost.

@ Luvgonzo - he has all the right physical attributes like strength, power ect but thats pretty much what is wrong with our youth system not enough of the right technical attributes. You would say a similar thing about bebe im sure.

I only mentioned potential with Carroll, although I have complete faith in him for next season. As for Ireland his development may have been different had he been playing and the manager had faith in him.

@Style, sorry i maybe didnt explain myself clearly, I wasn't calling the players standard, my point is Utd won the league because they have a large squad of the largely the same standard of players. When a player was out injured, or someone was suffering in form, or was tiring in a game, they were able to call on a player that was the same (or close) to the standard of player they were replacing. We shown last season that we had a good 1st team, beating the like of Utd at Home and Chelsea Home and away, our problem was (other than the start from achieved) was when we took out of that 1st choice team our options were very limited. With the purchases we have made (like replacing our only true option upfront 'who wasnt performing anyway' and buying 2 players) we have more options. Saying the likes of Adam, Henderson, Downing and Caroll add nothing, and will not improve our chances of getting in the top 4 is like saying the likes of Berbatov, Smalling, Scholes, Giggs, O'shea, Park had nothing to do with Utds recent success

Stepehen Ireland is a tosser with a chip on his shoulder and play's for himself. Charlie Adam seem's like a nice down to earth bloke and a team player.

    What?

That midfield 4 wouldn't look out of place at Blackburn/Fulham/Sunderland

If that is what LFC are pinning their hopes on...

    Dear me!

    Spurs fan here.

Just being nosy and shouldn't admit it but out of all the other top sides in England I don't mind Liverpool and quite like Kenny.

Anyway, what formation are you likely to play next season? My best mate is a Liverpool fan and he reckons 4-3-3 with Gerrard, Henderson, Adam in midfield and Suarez, Carroll and Kuyt up top with Maxi and Meireles getting plenty of games due to rotation.

    I reckon 4-2-3-1

    -----------------Reina-------------------
    --Kelly------Carra----Agger----NEW LB---
    ------------Lucas-----Adam-------------
    -----Downing----Gerrard------Suarez-----
    -----------------Carroll-------------------

Subs: Henderson, Doni, Kuyt, Ngog, Meireles, Skrtel, Johnson.

Anderson, Carrick, senile Giggs and Obertan? Seriously?

That midfield would not look out of place at Raith Rovers/Trabsonspor/Perth Glory.

If that's who Utd are pinning their hopes on...

    Dear me.

Oh yeah, Young. Not as rated by Villa fans as Downing.

it's difficult to guess as we finally have options. I reckon it will be the dodgy 4-1-3-1-1 that managers use

    GK: Reina

    LB: New LB? / Flanno
    CB: Kelly
    CB: Skertl / Carra
    RB: Johnson

    DM: Lucas

    LM: Downing
    CM: Adam
    RM: Gerrard

    SS: Suarez
    CF: Carroll

that still leaves a huge amount of Talent not in the XI - Meireles, Aqualiani, Kuyt, Spearng, Cole, Robinson, Insua, Henderson, Wilson

We have some real depth for the first time in ages and it's only taken 4 signings (poss 4 if we get a new left back)

At least we have option's now to change the formation when we want. Remember we went to Chelsea last season played three at the back and basically Chelsea did'nt know what to do. While I would'nt be Downing's biggest fan one thing he has going for him is he is versatile, he can play anywhere in midfiled and he can play as a LWB.
