Monaco are one of the richest clubs in Europe and are used to regular competition in the Champion's League. You are deluding yourself if you think we'll ever get to that level.
Clearly? ... and there was me thinking I might just have found that mysterious area that I have always seemed to overlook ... the one where you and Proud live with the other 'Lost Boys' devastated that 'Peter Pan' has been banished and in denial that he might just have brought it on himself ...
It's easy FF. Go to the extreme left, you get communism. Go to the extra right, you get the Nazis. The trick is to avoid going too far in either direction - lean left, lean right or stay in the middle - otherwise you come across as an extreme nut job and your opinions get laughed at. Hope this helps!
... for the avoidance of doubt ... I'm not saying that we are a big club ... merely pointing out that people apply different criteria ... what makes you 'big' ? ... current success, historic success, fan base, capacity, wealth? ... I've seen it debated so many times on this forum (not just our board) ... are Chelsea and Man City now big clubs ... bigger than Spurs, Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool ? ... don't expect a consensus view ... just look at the squabbles currently going on in threads across the general Prem board ... my own view is that it is all bollocks ... and why should it matter? ... we are looking to expand our ground to 40,000 plus ... we are wealthier than we have ever been ... will that make us bigger? ... it will be 'progress' and that is all ...
Careful about the ground expansion mate. We went up from just over 40k to 49k and the truth is it's a little to big for us as we only ever fill it once or twice a season now. The atmosphere isn't the same either due to the amount of spare seats around the stadium.
You do have three big clubs up there to be fair. We will desperately need more seats if we stay up and consilidate.
Leicester is the 10th biggest City in the UK population wise with Leicester City the only professional club within the county boundaries ... take your point entirely but a 'successful' footie team in Leicester should easily draw regular, sustainable, crowds of over 40k ... our egg chasing brethren regularly sell out in their 24k stadium just down the road ...
rather timely article http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9915096 ... the missing numbers were almost certainly down to away fans not taking full allocation ...
They weren't when Raneiri was in charge - they were a team that had fallen from grace and languishing in Legue 2 before he got them promoted and back in the Champions League the following season.
Should have read this before posting my new thread... However, in my defence, how was I to know that an article called "Should we have waited for Capello" turn into a conversation about attendances
They were at their lowest ebb BEFORE Ranieri and the Russian billionaire came in. After that, it was virtually a formality to get back to their old position (ie top three of Ligue 1); you'd have to be a complete muppet to have £140 million at your disposal and not match Ranieri's achievements. The owners obviously weren't happy with 2nd anyway, since they sacked him.
Al that proves is that 32k is still not big enough for us. Sunderland went up from 40k to 49k which was a bridge too far for them, and probably would be for us to.
