Did I blink and miss something ? I seem to remember we were on a one-way ticket to good old Div 4 when Cotts arrived. Within weeks he rejuvenated the whole atmos around the club, and within 2 months had set fire to players like Flint. The simple truth is SOD is a top quality coach, and a bloody dreadful manager. He should stick to barking his way round a training ground in future and leave managing to those who know how
Sat watching the Liverpool v Brisbane Roar game on live TV, there are regular shots of the Liverpool bench, but no sign of O'Dismal. McAllister is there with Rodgers. 1-1 after 27 mins if anyone is interested.
SOD is a fantastic coach, but I think history has shown that Bristol City don't need a top coach, they need a manager that can motivate. Our best managers in recent history (GJ and Cotterill) have both been motivators that rely on a strong coaching staff and being backed by the owner. SOD was doomed from the start because he wouldn't fight the owner for the funds the club desperately required, possibly because he lacked the experience as a manager to know exactly what he wanted from the club. All the tactics in the world can't stop a club in free-fall. Cotterill bucked the trend. He told the owners we needed experience with youth, and that the current crop of players just needed some confidence. We can praise Cotterill all we want, but he basically did two things to turn a club from a joke to a dominant force. Whether that will cut it in the Championship, we will see.
SOD had been a manager for long enough before he ever darkened our doorstep to have been capable of managing a piss up in a brewery, but he proved us wrong. The bloke couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag, so please no excuses for him. He, Rodgers, and Liverpool will also fail.....
Promotion at Bournemouth, Football League Trophy and promotion at Doncaster, decent performance and unfairly sacked at Forest.... we're the only blot on his record. Terrible for us, but somewhere, he will almost certainly come good imo.
100% agree there was something behind the scenes that was wrong,Sod is one of the best English coaches around.
There was a plan, he was the scapegoat, we now have SC and we need him to do better than he has so far !
Did I blink and miss something ? Probably the two wins and draws in Mr O'Driscolls last five matches in charge. Within weeks of Mr Cotterill being in charge there was also the Ole match at Brentford. Mr Cotterill has done very very well, and not reverted to the "Cotterball" tactics that stigmatised peoples view of him [including mine] at Bristol City, and throughout football. The club hopefully is now on an even keel and there will be no need in future for the FC to implement things such as the five pillars to get spending away from 140% past income [idiotic levels]. It remains to be seen how the unusual Bristol Sport -FC model will work.
