Damn pity if we don't sign goalkeeper Stockdale. He's the standard of keeper we need.

Would have loved to have seen Gudjohnsenn and Routledge too, both with significant experience.

Needs a landmark signing or two you fancy

I still don't see the fuss on Emnes. Tidy player, but nothing spectacular for me.

I think an Emnes signing rather than being a headline grabber, is a statement that we will continue to fit the right type of player into our style, rather than building around a player/squeezing the wrong type of player into our system. He would supply good cover for the wings/up front, however would not be a first teamer.
    May not even happen though!

Emnes sounds sensible, if not flashy. I like the fact that he covers a number of positions - the more players we have like that for the coming season the better position we'll be in.

Has he already made friends here? - Yes
Did he impress on loan? - Yes
Would he be a good buy for around £2m (the fee suggested)? - Yes
Is he better than any of our striker options except Danny Graham? - Yes
Is he a great player? - no, but that's not what we need.

Great worker, tidy guy, fits in well with the existing group (as does Graham and Caulker by all reports out of the training ground) and would offer us a different option that most of our other forwards.

I'd be more than happy to see him at the Liberty next season.

Almost spot on there Chris as he would also be cover for the wingers.

In fairness I don't disagree with any of that, I just think there might be better options available for a similar price. If we could get him for less than 2 million, it'd be worth it, but anything more than that would be a bit extravagant in my opinion, given his lack of goals on the whole. I think he'd be good cover for the wings (but it's a lot of money to spend on a squad player), but I don't know if I fancy him up front in the Premiership. In a two man attack, maybe, but on his own?

Which brings me to something else, I've been wondering if Buck plans to play with 2 strikers more often this season. By saying we need to sign another one it makes me think so.

Assuming Graham claims the starting striker spot and we typlically play Sinclair - Dobbie - Dyer in support, then off the bench Emnes gives us a fresh replacement on in a swap for Graham or a Plan B when replacing one of the others. He also makes Moore and Beattie work extra-hard in training to claim the bench spot for a forward. And he's still only 23 / 24 - so some upside still.

And, he scored a cracker against Cardiff ... what's left to say.

To debe fair to emnes he did all he was asked to do.Not a flashy world beater but i agree as said before a good option off the bench.Beattie and Moore must go championship players at best.My concern still is (if bodde isnt back to his best)where is the midfield general?

Would be happy with his signing for reasons given by Chris but been reading on one of the Boro sites that Mowbray has seemlingly persuaded Marvin to stay on at least for another season. His omission from the squad on their tour is because of injury so he may not be an option for us at this time.

I just don't see them selling him for cheap, too. Middlesborough, and Mowbray, seem intent on keeping him, which means it would have to be an offer that would force their hand, and I doubt 2mil would do it.

With Boro desperate to cut thier wage bill i would say there's a distinct possibility we could sign Emnes.

I'd take Emnes at £1m definately, good player who can come in up front as a pacier alternative to Graham or out wide in rotation with Dyer and Sinclair.

Far better proposition than Routledge for our style and squad harmony. Wouldn't go much higher in terms of cash for him though.
