You are right, he's made his choice and obviously believes in his ability.

According to Daily Mirror hack John Cross Sterling was justified in the disrespectful way he got his move to City and apparently money definitely wasn't a part of it, he reckons Sterling's ambition for trophies was the only reason.
So him getting 80k a week more than the 100k a week we offered him and not to mention that his weekly pay at City is 145k more than he was getting at LFC never entered his head and will be donated to a charity of his choice.

But it was the sickening pretence of respect shown by the club to him after it was done and dusted that grated most.<grr>

This argument is stupid to be fair. Players do have good seasons, not every player has a great season every year. You can't just say it's inflated as though it was some alien life force happened to come down and score his goals. The simple fact is - for Villa (a hugely defensive team) he's a 1 in 2 striker (slightly over 1 in 2 I believe).

However you want to try and twist it, that's his stats. For such a poor attacking team they're very good stats for a striker.

I'm not saying he's our answer, but from what I hear you say about him it's clearly MOTD chat.

    Back on sterling.

I see city have heavily scripted the boys interviews.

My mum think I look good in blue.

Someone should tell them it's harder than that to fix a money grubbing high seeking spoilt brat reputation.

But a lot of players have 1 really good season - and LFC tend to buy these 1 season wonders. Adam, Downing, Carroll are to name a few.

Other strikers who had 1 very good season are Ricketts, Michu and look at them now. For £25m, I expect a player to have had at least 2 good seasons and highly regarded around Europe. Benteke has potential to develop his all round game but the amount we're paying is too big of a risk.

I totally agree that it's a massive risk and he's overpriced at 32.5mil. But I have to say I'd rather we bought him than mess about trying find someone else and fail at the last minute as no one is available, basically leaving us with Ings up front when Sturridge inevitably gets injured!

I'd throw the money at Lyon personally for Lazactette (sp?) - but I can't see that happening.

The point I was making are his stats for Villa are good taking everything into consideration. The one good season argument I don't buy into personally <ok>

I'm going to have to disagree with your view on Benteke and the 1 season wonder thing. He been at villa for 3 seasons and pretty much played 2 and a half of them. Whether you think he suits your team is one thing. To say he's only done it for 1 season is not true. He's done it for 2 and a half and has a great record, especially for a team who don't really attack.

I happen to think he's a bit of a beast if you are playing direct. Not sure about what he would be like making runs but he is a decent striker

His record at villa is 1 in 2 at best, and his last two seasons is 1 in 2.3.

You argue that Villa don't create chances which is valid but you also have to remember that he is the main man, everything goes through him and they play to his strengths - and the best he can do is 1 in 2.

On his day and if played properly, he can be a handful but the same applies to any other player. Mario is unplayable on his day but he has done it at a higher level and against better defences.

Now i'm not saying hes going to a class striker and i'm not saying 32m is the right price for him, but to just say he's only a 1 in 2 strike does his disservice. How many 1 in 2 strikers do you know. Even before Liverpool Balotelli isn't a 1 in 2 striker (and i know how much you rate the lad).

Lacazzetta who is the next hot thing is not 1 in 2 at lyon, Aubamayang is 1 in 2 and Rooney at united (who i think is overrated) is just 1 in 2 at united.

He might not work at a big club, but until he's given that opportunity, no one will know

True but those guys have had good seasons recently - Benteke's one great season was 2-3 years ago.

And with the lieks of Lacazette and Auba - I can afford to be lenient towards their records because a) they have more potential, b) better suited to our style of play c) delivered similar if not better stats than Benteke but at a higher level.

Really? I'm unsure on Benteke myself but he's a much better player than Balotelli, I don't what games you've seen where he's unplayable but I've certainly never witnessed this what must be a biannual event.

Italy vs Germany a few years back where he dominated a world class back line.

Agree, they are far and few between. <ok>

Either way - I want neither at this club.

I'm not saying Benteke is the right fit for you guys, but even this year which was just as good seeing he missed a lot of it and their team is looking weak, he still got 15 goals in 31 games. Pretty much 1 in 2. He still scored more goals than Rooney in less games.

As for more potential Benteke is the same age as Lacazette and 2 years younger than Aubamayang. As for higher level, people bang on about the premier league being the best league in the world. Not my opinion, i think the German league is just as good but the French league is pretty poor. As well as that we are talking about Auba playing as the striker in what is Germanys equivalent of Arsenal/City, a free scoring team with an abundance of attacking talent.
