As far as bad timing goes this thread is so far ahead of the competition I doubt it'll ever be beaten Sunderland, the secretive club ........ please log in to view this image
Kaboul, a decent signing stated how quickly the transfer had gone through and thanked Lee Congerton for getting it done... This after Lens has signed a day earlier in a big money move. If that doesn't give Lee and the club some breathing space from their detractors I don't know what will.
At face value the OP raised some valid points of our transfer dealings, especially given our past history of what appear to be duffers. Since Advocaat arrived he has transformed tactics, retained experience players and is on track to make at least four signings. Just tells me that the problem we had was not necessarily the players but the managerial tactics and attitude.
I'd call them recently invalidated points myself, only took about 30 hours for them to be invalidated too. Lessons are as follows Moan when the window is closed, not when it's only half way in. Every transfer is different, as the the last 30 hours have proved, one may take while to get there, some can come from nowhere. Just because a transfer breaks down it's not the end of the world, we have other targets. What's happened in the past is in the past, it won't dictate what happens in every window for the rest of time. remember this simple lesson and one can be sure not to present yourself having a premature meltdown on a message board. Love you @Cest Advocaat , this thread is typical you. But Rather then taunt you(ok I did a little), i hope that you feel more at ease about this window now things are ticking along nicely.
Look at them in isolation mate and all 4 points are just common sense. They could be applied to any team, any league, any time.
That's why posting the thread was a daft idea in the first place .... .... unless you're so desperate to get your whinge in before any signings can spoil it for you
No argument there, but the points made in the OP still pertained at the time. The timing of the post was just unfortunate for Cest.
The thing that pleases me so far about our transfer activity is the prices Congers is knocking out. Previously we would have shelled out about 5-8 mil for each individual player we have signed, which would have left no money for other positions leaving us scraping the barrell and loan market. At the moment we have signed 4 players with champions league experience for (roughly) 16 mil. If reports are true and Dick has 40 mil to spend and is wanting 6 players, we now have 24 mil to go between a quality cm and a striker. Im defo happy so far! If we can get that creative spark i honestly think we already have goals in the team with Defoe and Connor (if played through the middle).
Makes complete sense. Once the big lads have shelled out their 100+mil kitties then the rest of us can get to work and fight over the also ran's and wannabees.
True before the fact too, I've been pushing these points the whole time because it's just common sense. It's not some throw away hindsight comment, it's a consistent sensible stance. On judging at the end of the window On patience On alternative targets On Congerton's performance after some people declared same old same old. I practice what I preach before, during and after
