Quick question to ask whilst waiting for us to sign someone/ anyone else and it's a bit of a weird one.I have recently agreed to sit and watch the Star Wars films with my daughter but have been having a disagreement about which order to watch them in. My lass says we should watch them in numerical order 1-6 but I argue that they should be watched in the order they were released 4-6 1-3 even though this flier in the face of my OCD. What do you guys think.

If only there was a Jedi master available to give out advice on which path to take............

Even though prequels are released afterwards, I've always thought would be interesting to watch them before the main films to see if it makes any difference.

Just watch 4-6 and then take her to 7 in December. Don't bother with 1-3 they are abysmal.

4-6, then 1-3. A youngling may think WTF when they see the aged ep 4 after the modern CGI of 1-3. Better for her to think WTF they ruined it when watching 1-3* after having watched the original films.

    * I quite liked ep 3 though.

Totally agree GLS, I think watching episode 1 first could put her off watching the rest all together, at least watching the classics first should keep her interested.

Don't watch any of them unless it is part of a drinking game where every time your chosen characted is on the screen you take a drink! Otherwise it's a waste of your time!

4-6 first then fight as hard as you can not to bother with the prequels. You can't have her thinking Binks is a standard for characters in the franchise!

Never watched star wars, never understood the fascination personally even though im a fan of sci fi. Also speaking as a youngster (or a mid 20 year old that is trying to convince himself his still young!) I personally find any film made before say 1999 very hard to watch, the film quality is poor as is some (not all) of the acting, the one exception I make is Die Hard 2, but that in itself is a masterpiece and maybe the matrix

    This.

Although preferred the original originals prior to them being "updated".

Don't bother watching the prequels. I don't count them as Star Wars movies as they are utter dog ****.
Watch the original trilogy and if you absolutely must, watch the prequels but give a health warning.

2001 space odyssey. .1968.. nuff said (especially if stoned)

Also got to disagree w the acting part..noticeably getting worse year on year, plus the lack of risk taking in modern films..becoming more conservative..industrial product, forgetting that it just not a cash cow. CGI is a million times better mind

I'll take apocalypse now, taxi driver, dead man, blood simple, godfather ..etc etc over anything post 2000...but I'm an old fogey and consequently bewildered and confused is my default setting..though I'm Mr T right in this instance

I'd watch them in numerical order, prequels first. I like episode 3. Episode 2 is ok. Phantom Menace is pretty bad though.

I think they're worth watching just to analyze the story, refresh yourself with the history of characters. They're interesting in some parts.

The 5th and 6th episodes are by far the best.

IV, V, I, II, III, VI. Episode order ruins the surprise that [REDACTED]

Episode I can also be removed from this list and watched as a stand-alone as it doesn't really contribute much.

Taxi Driver and the Godfather are two of the greatest movies ever made. I'd also add Godfather Part II and French Connection, Goodfellas and Casino to that list.

Goodfellas, now that's a movie I can watch over again, Godfather is another classic and also like Boyz n the hood but think they may be a bit strong for an eight year old girl to watch

Personally I thin you take them as two almost entirely separate trilogies that happen to be in the same universe. The next trilogy from Xmas 2015 has to also be taken in isolation, it's not possible to run through them chronologically.

It's easy to do if you're familiar with the KOTOR and Old Republic computer game series. I'm struggling to recall now - did the 'first' three have Sith in them? I don't remember any, only Empire vs Republic.

The only 'sith' in the original trilogy were Vader and the Emperor [Palpatine.] I don't think the word Sith was every mentioned though.

Exactly. So you have "the Sith" as the "Phantom Menace", right, then three films later (chronologically) there's no Sith. Vader isn't really Sith, though Palpatine is, but as you say it's not mentioned. There'll be Sith all over the place at Xmas, so it makes sense to just say there's three trilogies set in the Star Wars universe and watch them however you want. I'd personally suggest the newer trilogy is more kid friendly (apart from Anakin burning up on the lava river, skip that bit), and Empire Strikes Back is really a bit heavy for kids. There's a lot of nostalgia for us as well, kids might not quite 'get it'.
