Realistically i don't think we could have got anybody better to be a "back up" goalkeeper. Didn't cost an awful lot and is proven in the Premiership. Aside from the top 4 and Lloris he'd probably get in any other side. It showed last season how important it was to have a good no.2 and we'll have the same again this season. Great signing.
I just always call it like I see it mate. Hate blatant bias when evidence points to the contrary, just makes you look a clown. I dont think there is much between them, and like I said, maybe if Courtois had been in De Gea's shoes, he'd have brung it like De Gea has. But De Gea has by far been your stand out player of the last two seasons, like Hazard has been for us and Coutinho has been for Liverpool.
I'm going to have to disagree with you Bod. Whilst Courtouis has dropped i couple of clangers i would far prefer Courtouis over De Gea. Don't get me wrong, De Gea is a good keeper and he will pull off worldy saevs, maybe even more than Courtouis when placed in similar positions (i.e. De Gea is the better shot stopper). What i like about Courtois is that he is more commanding, his aerial presence is far far better than De Geas. De Gea i felt got unwarranted critism when he first joined but he's not the best in dealing with crosses. Courtouis is also more of a sweeper keeper than De Gea. De Gea does most things very well and is a brilliant shot stopper, but give me a keeper who is far more consistent in everything he does and dominates his box over a shot stopper. Neuer though is still the best keeper in the game.
What Bobby said. In modern game shot stopping is just 50% of keeper's duty. Best defences are made by better keepers who command the box. A keeper who will take an elbow, knee (bastardo hunt) for his defenders makes those defenders hell lot better. It is not a coincidence that Manures defenders are always looking over their shoulders and unsure of what they will get. Heck even Vidic (not just those horrific injuries) was exposed under De Gea. So De Gea lacks a lot and personally I will not place him in top 5 of PL just because he was the best player in that gawd awful Manures squad. Justice will be done if De Gea leaves on a free - after all he ain't worth the sum he is getting quoted around. But all this Victor not playing news and De Gea in final year makes it comical. We got Asmir just at the right time. Now Manures might dump close to 100M on Kane & Lloris (if he recovers sooner).
