We've lost some good players which is extremely dissappointing but we still have easily the best defence in the division. If it's a back 5 as expected all of the current first choice 5 could comfortably play in the premier league, Chester and Dawson in particular are a class above pretty much every CB in the division. We have Huddlestone who has the potential to be fantastic, and Meyler who is proven as a very good Championship player. Until we get rid of any strikers we still have Jelavic who has been our most important player in the last year or so and N'Doye who looked very promising at times. Add to that Aluko who was a brilliant Championship player last time around and then Snodgrass and Diame when they come back who are too good for the Championship. We need to sign a couple of midfielders and then some strikers if the current lot are sold but even with our current squad we'd be mid table at worst. We just have too much quality for the Championship.

Is that really true though? I know it's an opinion widely bandied about, but I just think better players create more space for themselves.

Agreed we have a strong core plus Brady and Robertson (if they stay), and Elmo who is durable and our most consistent player. We are far stronger than when we last were promoted from the Championship and other than Derby I dont see the returning teams being stronger than last year. We need a new reliable goalkeeper and a striker who can add 10-15 goals a year and a creative Whittingham type MF and I think that we should challenge for at least a playoff place if not automatic.
That would be great! Why not, surely if Jelavic is still around for a few weeks he could score for fun v the likes of Huddersfield even players like Aluko in this league could rip teams to shreds and like Willson says above we still have a strong core

It's difficult to depend on how a player was 2 or 3 years ago. Players change, some may improve, some may get worse.
I've put a tenner on us being in the bottom three on the first of September. 20/1 with sky bet. Our build up compared to others has been woeful. Other championship teams have players signed and competitive matches being played already so they gel.
With what Huddersfield have atm your dream could well come true. Only the Wolves away game looks tough in august. We should get off to a good start.
I still think we have a more than capable squad! I'd like to play Brady in a more central role! Which would allow us to have robbo as a starter as well. Everyone knows pace is the weapon of choice if you want to do well in the championship and we've got loads of it. Have some faith lads.
