We 'Chavs' don't think that Arsenal team was boring. It was nowhere near as good as is presented though. Draw specialists who obtained less points and scored less goals than Jose's team did in the following season. The point being, they were either equally entertaining or equally boring as last seasons champions, statistically speaking. The rest is just objective bullshit to allow people to feel better about the fact they didn't win the title. I'm actually quite amazed you've allowed this thread to be bumped.
This. That one result we had against City when we lost 1-0 to a penalty, our only league defeat of the season...... I would personally rate getting a higher points total, and only conceding 15 goals as a much better achievement
It was a much better achievement...but there isn't a fancy buzz title like 'invincibles' to describe the amazing achievements we reached in 2005. We also won a cup and got further in the Champions League. Overall therefore a far better season than Arsenal had.
Many impartial fans, such as United,,agree that our 04/5 side was better. We beat United and Liverpool to win Carling cup. And beat Barca and Bayern in Champions league while the Vincibles lost to Boro in Carling Cup, and got battered by us Inter and Kyiv in Europe.
The people claiming that the invincible season was not that good because of the draws, clearly has no idea of sports psychology. I always remember a coach telling me that to win you have to dare to lose. Its a very good saying, most teams when they win the league with 6 or 7 games to go have no pressure, arsenal effectively had more pressure after we had won the league. The fact that no one has really got close to doing it in almost 100 years is telling. The Chelsea team the following year only lost one game away to city (I think) and accumulated more points. However, had they drawn that game with city, and were on for potentially going unbeaten would some of that 1-0 have become 0-0 towards the end? Who knows, but you can see the point I'm trying to make. The pressure and whole psychology changes, when you have something like thats on the line, if you lose its not just losing 3 points, its losing something that you have worked so hard all season for, and that plays on the mind. Had arsenal lost at old trafford that season when Van Nistelrooy missed that penalty, I think we would have ended up with more points, probably in the mid to high 90s. Some of the players might have taken more risks, and pushed to turn some of that draws into wins.
No one is saying that it wasn't good. It was great. Just that accruing more points, winning more games and conceding less goals is better.
And if you had done that and not lost a game then your team would also be held in the highest esteem and would also be thought of as Invincible! But Chelsea did lose a game so they weren't Incincible in that season. As someone had posted already only 2 teams EVER in the history of top flight football have gone unbeaten in a full season, which shows you how hard a fear it is to achieve. Preston North End and Arsenal deserve their acclaim for their achievement as being Invincible.
And only one team has achieved 95 points and conceded 15 goals in a season, which shows you how even harder it is.
You can win more games and get more points than Arsenal did. That would be better Ya know, seeing as attacking, scoring and winning is the be all and end all and whatnot
You got beat lots of times that season, by us no less. Our 2005 season pisses on it, as does Uniteds treble.
ok. As long as you deal with the fact that it was an inferior achievement compared to both our 2005 season and Uniteds 99 treble
Only in the eyes of Chavs & United fans (and probably Spurs) whereas everyone else acknowledges how great an achievement it was. The Treble (CL, League title, domestic cup) has been won by other teams like Barca and Bayern so not unique, and points totals can be beaten. You can't beat being Unbeaten
Whats with the "It cant be beaten" stuff? Who cares. Why would anyone care about beating an inferior achievement. You cant beat AIDS either, doesnt mean everyone should rush out to get it.
