According to reports today the european parlaiment is calling for all sports teams based within the European union to sport the EU flag on their shirts. As a Watford fan I find this quite exciting as we will be able to sport stars on our shirts for the only time in the proud history of our club. I am, however, a bit concerned about the colour clash it will cause.

What do others think about this initiative and will they be asking the Minister to vote when the proposal comes before the EU Culture Council?

We could put 5 stars if we wanted, no need for poxy EU stars on our shirts.

But a commission spokesman has rubbished the claims, saying, "Of course, if a club or national team wants to wear the European flag next to its own flag or emblem, that's entirely up to them.

"But the commission has no authority to impose such a decision and nor would it wish to. We are united in our diversity.

You've been obsessing over our trophy count for the last 20 years! The number is probably etched on your bedside cabinet <whistle>

How would I know how many trophies our smaller rivals won during the Cold War? It's not as though you ever tell us, is it? <whistle>

Obviously it is unlikely to ever go through but it made me giggle so I just thought I'd ask others' opinions on it as regardless of whether it is true or not I think it's a mildly amusing, vaguely sports related, topic..

Because it winds you up when we even mention it. Its the comeback of all comebacks, it's like we're dropping a Nuclear bomb on your arguments. One minute you're in with a chance of winning an argument against a Liverpool fan then boom, out comes the secret weapon.

So you weren't trying to wind the Euro-haters up? I seriously doubt it...

I suppose it's a bit like arguing with a German over who's country is better, and when you realise that we live in a ****hole and there's no way you're going to win, using "who won the war" as your trump card.

I said I thought I'd ask other people's opinions on it - covers a multitude of reasons in my simple mind - including the one you raised.

Is that an admittance of inferiority then? As Man Utd fans do use the 19 trump card often.

    5 stars.<doh>

I would actually prefer to see the national flag used instead of the EU one. A lot of the Italian teams do this already.
