He'll get games, the league cup will be his, possibly the FA cup as well, and a few CL matches, plus whatever league games if Courtois is unavailable. He'll have the chance to win trophies, he'll earn a better wage and if he leaves it will probably be to another CL team. Plus, as bodanki says, he probably thinks he has chance of becoming their no.1, you don't become an EPL keeper unless you have confidence in your abilities, and judging by the way he has played in the EPL with Portsmouth and Stoke, I'd say his confidence is well placed. He's done his EPL apprenticeship, after turning down Tottenham for 'football reasons'. I think he's better than Cech. tbh, who isn't as good as he was when he joined.
Blimey, I once swam at Big Deal in August, took a week for the feeling to come back in my toes. Last week I swam in Sydney, 22C water temp on a 5C winter morning . Thats what I call a proper water temperature. Hats off to you if you like freezing your bollocks off ! Enjoy the beautiful south coast, no argument about that.
Call me biased, but I rated Begovic more than De Gea!! I was worried, that manures might replace De Gea for fraction of he cost with Begovic. Not going to happen now - that!! 'Arguably' better than Cech - but I would agree with you.
I'm mystified as to why people rate De Gea so highly, he's in the top ten, but I wouldn't put him in the top 5.
Honestly how can people not rate De Gea as on par or even better than Courtois? Hes a fantastic keeper I am disappointed United seem to be keeping him.
I have to say it, because its an elephant in the room. I might get flack but **** it. De Gea, on what he has shown me so far in the last two seasons, is better than Courtois. Sorry, but he is. De Gea is slightly older and been in the PL longer, but yes he edges past Courtois right now, I am sorry. And now I also have to agree with the Manc, How anyone cannot see that De Gea is ****ing awesome is mystifying. Especially with how **** Uniteds defence has been the last two years, he almost singlehandedly managed to keep United's goals conceded respectable. Courtois hasn't had the same weight on his shoulders, and hasn't needed to step up. Granted I didn't watch him at Atletico because I don't watch dirty ****ing Spanish bullshit football (because its dog ****). But at Chelsea, Courtois has been very good. De Gea at United, last two seasons, has been a miracle worker..... Thats just how I feel right now....
Aye, Thats not to say Courtois hasn't been great, and may one day be the best GK in the world, and he is definitely top 5 without a doubt for me (along with Neuer, Cech, De Gea and for the 5th I'd go maybe Sirigu or Lloris). But De Gea has been Uniteds stand out player the last two years (which says a lot about how far they fell when Fergie left), take him out of last seasons United team and they are finishing 6th at best. I don't think there is any other player who you could say that about in their team.
Agreed. I just think that it's a lot easier to shine if your goal is peppered every week. Courtois controls his area better for me. He also pulls of great saves.
Aye, and who is to say that if Courtois had been thrown into that United team, he wouldn't have stepped up and done as well as De Gea. He could have, but he wasn't. So from what I have seen, it has to be De Gea.
That's the key point for me. It's like when Parker won player of the year for West Ham. Cos he literally dragged them through games and stood out as a result. Courtois had a lot less to do last year in front of a far superior defence and therefore never stood out as much. For me, they are both in the same class and probably the best 2 young keepers on the planet.
I can't believe how quickly people forget how error prone he is, how many balls have gone between his legs or he's dropped over the line? He makes plenty of TV saves, sure, but looking good and actually being good are two totally different things.
Indeed. They may well be equal. The difference for me is that De Gea has had to prove his class, and as of yet, comparatively speaking, Courtois hasn't had to, as much. Which is why I have to go De Gea.
All keepers make mistakes, even the great Peter Schmeichel, will never forget his sliced attempted clearance from a backpass in the FA Cup against Barnsley. The Barnsley striker got on to the end of it and scored.
so many of De Gea's that none stick in the memory, just the impression that he's rated because he plays for united and has made a few flying saves that look good on TV, while less than average performances are ignored, he conceded 9 goals against MK dons and Leicester, watch those and tell me he's one of the best GK's in the prem.
