Bit late, but just seen Frome destroy the field in the Pyrenees, finishing a minute ahead of the next rider, anothe Sky bloke. 100% climb, first of 9 mountain stages. Impressive, firm grip on the yellow jersey.
Not my top sport by any means, but usually has a bit of a following on here. Wubba and Sooper and in the olden days Imaz know a lot more about it than me. I was genuinely impressed with it today, don't usually watch but it was too hot to do anything but loll around this afternoon. This has to be the most insanely gruelling competition there is. Looks like Marine Boy agrees with you Col. Though if there was a subutio version I'm sure he would be more interested.
I'm with you on this one SB, love watching the cycling although have not had much chance so far this year. Great work by Team Sky not only Froome but Porte in second took away time bonus from Quintana and also Thomas up to fourth overall. Only caught last twenty minutes of highlights but Froome just rode the best climbers in the world off the mountain. Let's hope he can keep it going!
Ooooooooooh! At least spell it correctly mush.....or maybe that was your way of being deliberately provocative. That's probably the case. please log in to view this image Yes, I would have been more interested if it was a Subbuteo version...so would you be!
Epic ride by Froome. Destroyed the main contenders and left the French in the dust on Bastille Day. If he can replicate that form for the next two days then i can't see him losing 2 minutes plus on the run into Paris. Luckily for me its still Ramadan so finishing work at 2pm (noon UK) and by the time i get home theres wall to wall live coverage every day on Qatari tv. A few pastis and a runny brie makes my afternoon very pleasurable and Gallic
Loved it mate, seeing Froome make that sudden burst is great to see. I was surprised to see Quintana drop off so much, I thought this year could have been his year. Like the commentators said yesterday, is the tour won already??
Surely this should be on the conspiracy thread...... The journalist who expose Armstrong for the cheat that he is believes Froome is clean, hope he is because they way he powered up the mountains was truly impressive......
I like the tour, only time apart from olympics that I'll watch any cycling. I even got to see it (for about 5 seconds) when it went through a local village last year. Due to the amount of drug cheating in the past and the massive let down of Armstrong it's hard to be 100% convinced they are clean. I truely hope we never hear anything negative about Brailsford and his teams in the coming years and I do believe Froome et al are clean. However, seeing him power away up the hills yesterday was reminscent of Armstrong. I also heard that the UCI is seriously considering testing the bikes for motors, I mean thats just ridiculous!! I'd like to see a race where they are allowed to use drugs, and olympics for whatever you want to take. People high jumping the pole vault, a seperate landing area outside the stadium for the javelin etc, it'd be brilliant.
A natural reaction to Froome's brilliant win yesterday was for the other teams to start bleating and the question of drugs rearing it's ugly head again, but Froome is one of those freaks of nature with an exceptional lung capacity and very low heart rate, the perfect combination for an all-conquering cyclist. His physiology is very similar to the great Miguel Indurain in terms of lung/heart, he could destroy a field at will and at his peak won time trials by several minutes before he was finally defeated by drug cheat Bjarne Riis. It's many critic's claim that Froome would have won in 2012 but for team orders to protect Wiggins. Froome is proving he is out on his own and I think he will win this race by a big margin. Sky are clearly very anti-doping and it would be difficult for any of their riders to get away with it, Froome has offered to take any independent test and I've no doubt he is clean...
I'm convinced Froome is clean. But I watched Armstrong tear up the field for 7 years convinced he was the greatest ever. You just have to try to accept that the UCI are doing everything possible to defeat doping and that there is a clean slate.
