Its not a long stretch of road between the roundabouts, people don't need to be speeding up to 60 only to have to slow down again right away.

In Myler's case, he's obviously a bit of dick with regards to driving and to drive when banned is idiotic in my opinion, he did well to get such a short ban.

Castle Hill isn't on the dual carriageway between the roundabout and Willerby, ironically the part of the same road that does actually pass Castle Hill is a single lane and has a 50 limit(until it drops to 40 for the roundabout). I'm not being arrogant, I'm just correcting someone who's talking complete bollocks.

For many years Lambretta held the two wheel land speed record, the one shown above was built in 1951 and was the first two wheeled vehicle to reach 200km/h.

I agree that poor driving should be punished, but I see that as a seperate issue to breaking the law, which is often arbitrary. For example, I got done for doing 37 in a 30. A few months later, with no other changes, the limit was increased to 40. Those doddering along country lanes at 40 are more of a danger than those cruising along at 65.

Speeding and drinking are a not a factor in most accidents (statistically, you're less at risk driving fast and pissed*). Excessive speed is different to speeding, you can drive at excessive speed and still be within the speed limits. Breaking the law doesn't necessarily show poor driving, only that you're breaking the law. It just means you've exceded some arbitrary value asigned to that road, that must be wrong as often as it's right if time of day, weather etc are added in.

    *tongue in cheek mode.

It's not safe to drive at more than 40mph (or maybe less) on many country lanes.

You'd best tell the DoT (or whoever it is that sets speed limits), they classify most of them as National Speed Limit.

I know they do - but I believe there's a campaign to make them all 40 or less.

Some lanes around where I am, you don't want to drive at more than c.20mph - you can round a bend and find a 6-axle ticker heading at you, or a vast tractor pulling summat as big as an aircraft-carrier.

I know what you mean, but equally, there are plenty where 40 just holds everyone else up, so people end up (wrongly) taking risks to get round them. If their skills aren't up to driving on such roads, there should be questioned asked about their license.

People drive like twats on the country roads round me, far more dangerous than anything you ever see in a city. There's nothing wrong with driving at 60 on most of the roads round here, but people do it round blind corners(even overtaking) and as Stan says, it's not unusual to find yourself confronted with a massive John Deere.

Mill View, at Castle Hill, is a mental health unit to be fair.

    Though he's still talking bollocks.

Speed limits nowadays are in general complete bollocks. Road not far from me which is wide, clear straight open view. No pedestrians, no residences - a few offices set some way back behind secure fencing. It's easy to do 50mph safely. The speed limit is a pathetic 30mph, often with camera vans. This road adjoins a narrow road, almost single-track in places which runs down the back of houses and gardens. Max safe speed is around 30-40mph. But the speed limit is 60mph.

I'm more concerned about where Meyler chooses to live. What a crappy area to have your house when you're on 20k per week. Tasteless chav
