<peacedove> Raheem Sterling is a top dog followed by Andy Carroll, both connected with Liverpool.

Prices paid for English players in recent years as follow:
    1.Raheem Sterling £49m
    2.Andy Carroll £35m
    3.Rio Ferdinand £30m.
    4.Luke Shaw £30m
    5. Wayne Rooney £27m
    6.James Milner £26m
    7.Adam Lallana £25m
    8.David Beckam £24.5m
    9. Darren Bent £24m
    10. Joleon Lescott £22m

No wonder why Wenger looks elsewhere.:laugh:What about Jose Mourinho??:laugh:

Only 3 players in that list were worth their fees too, and they're the three associated with United :bandit:
    Becks, Rooney and Camal mouth

you'll note that City, Liverpool and Utd dominate the list. Chelsea have never bought anyone english for big money in any era since lampard for 11mil.

but a point of note: darren bent went to villa for 18mil rising to 24. villa were nuts. i don't know if that got paid or not.

That's a disgraceful list and just shows you how inflated this market is.

Should never spend big on English talent - buy them in young at a nominal fee and develop them.

rio was still not worth 30mil at the time nor even over the period. it was still over priced

Beckahm was a fee receieved not a fee paid by english club.

Rooney proved his worth many times but is on gorssly inflated wages now.

shaw was a terrible fee for a young fat lad.

the only good news for utd is they were not the worst club of the 4 that paid on this list.

City overpaid for lescott and milner and now for sterling.. they got decent service out of milner but the fee was too high still.

LFc got the worst record without question as both of ours were terrible

Out of ten players Liverpool actually paid over the odds for two players. Andy Carroll and Adam Lallana.<doh><doh><doh>

Disagree with rio. Think he was a world class player for many years and 30m was a good price to pay for all them years of world class service.

Just goes to show how overpriced english players are though

Ferdinand was worth every penny. Can look at it two ways, as an individual he was a top class CB.

When you you look at what the team won with him in the side and the defensive record they had, makes it seem even more like a good fee.

Much like with sterling, 49m is a lot but if he goes and wins 3 league titles and 2 FA cups in next 5 years, people won't care about the fee and it will be justified.

Ferdinand won won everything going at United, if you can't call him a success for that then I don't know what you class as a successful transfer.

he still was'nt worth 30mil at the time at all and frankly the 18mil paid at the time by leeds was over paying. They should have got him for less. I think utd didn't realise at the time just where leeds were at financially and would say they regret not getting him for half the price.

I'd content vidic was more vital and cost half it.

Its only now how many years later that CBs are even getting lose to this price.

I'd completely disagree with that. Rio was absolutely freaking brilliant for United until his legs went. Some people say he was over rated. I think he was under rated. Superb player.

I don't disagree at all jsut that utd could have got him for a lot less 12 months later. it was a fee totally out of line with the period and the position.... it's the same as buffon i suppose. his fee was completely out of line but it ended up making a legend at juve....

I said rooney's paid his back many times over.

sterling? fees have done utterly mad with tv moeny. i'll contend james at real was far too much for example. sterling is prob only 10mil over the odds

Suarez went to Barcelona (though not English player) for £75m. In his first year he won the league and European cup plus one more cup.
People forget about investment if the player is a class player.:emoticon-0148-yes:

I didn't say he was not a success... just that he was way over paid for at the time. right now today 30mil is nothing..

in 2000 18mil wasw mad and 30 mil in 2002 was crazy. leeds were hiding thier financial problems a lot but just who were utd competing with in 2002 for his signature that required that fee.
